2022 Cannes International Film Festival

After skipping 2020 and scaling back for 2021 due to the pandemic, the 2022 Cannes International Film Festival is back in full force. Which is great for us since it usually produces fashion moments on par with the Met Gala and the Oscars. Although we have to admit, a decent amount of looks were relatively lackluster.

When it comes to designers, certain ones reigned supreme. We witnessed several dresses from Valentino’s Fall 2022 offering, aka the pink collection, take to the red carpet. Sharon Stone stuck with Dolce & Gabbana probably because she stars in the Italian fashion house’s new handbag campaign. As usual, there were plenty of haute couture looks to go around. Fendi, Armani Privé, Elie Saab, Christian Dior and Chanel are just a small sampling. Custom creations were also trending with Cara Delevingne’s revealing Balmain gown one of the standouts.

The jewelry was also something to behold. Especially when it came to necklaces. Julianne Moore’s Bottega Veneta dress was amplified by Bulgari’s Eden The Garden of Wonders necklace, for example.

On the beauty front, hair really turned heads. Bella Hadid’s wet-look hairdo with sculpted strands in the middle of her forehead really made a statement. As did Grace Elizabeth’s piecey pixie.

Oscar dressesWhen it comes to red carpet fashion, the Oscars are like the Super Bowl and the World Series rolled into one. Celebs bring their A game when it comes to Oscar dresses. Always looking to score a MVP slot for the evening and possibly in the hallowed halls of history. (OK, that’s all our sports knowledge!) So what does it take to stand out among such well-dressed company? Over the years we’ve learned that risk frequently equals reward. And sometimes simplicity is key. Check out the best of the best from Oscar ceremonies gone by above to get primed to watch this year’s telecast and see how the latest attendees fare on the fashion front.

The fashion at this year’s Oscars was superb. But the beauty? Well, it was pretty stellar, too. In fact, from the hairstyles to the makeup, the 2021 Oscars beauty looks were some of the best of this modified awards season.

When it came to hairstyles, easy, breezy strands and fancy updos both proved popular. Zendaya channeled Cher with her long locks. Margot Robbie’s low ponytail was polished yet laid-back. On the other end of the spectrum, Amanda Seyfried’s pinned ‘do was pure Old Hollywood.

Deep lips were trending. Vanessa Kirby’s were accented by some well-placed blush. Eye-catching eyeshadow was also big. H.E.R. rocked purple shadow that tied in seamlessly with her Dundas ensemble. While Amanda’s cranberry shimmer shade made her eyes sparkle.

2021 OscarsThere was a real red carpet at the 2021 Oscars. Though it wasn’t as grand as previous years. (For obvious reasons.) But there were still lots of stars and gorgeous gowns to fawn over. And several trends reigned supreme. First, there were the golden looks as striking as the Oscar statuette. Carey Mulligan wowed in a glistening Valentino haute couture creation. Andra Day’s sparkling Vera Wang made a statement. She even flashed some strategic skin, another trend. White and red were also favored. Amanda Seyfried’s crimson Armani Privé gown served plenty of Old Hollywood glamour. Reese Witherspoon’s pleated Christian Dior featured a dynamic neckline. Meanwhile, Viola Davis’ custom Alexander McQueen white hot dress boasted an intricate bodice. Here are all the red carpet highlights from the 2021 Oscars.

The 2021 SAG Awards was 100 percent virtual. Which means there was no red carpet. But that didn’t stop stars from dressing up for the show.

Many “attendees” really brought their A game. Nicole Kidman absolutely wowed in a delicate Armani gown. Kerry Washington topped off her dazzling Etro dress with a matching cap. While Anya Taylor-Joy took a moodier approach in Vera Wang.

There were a couple of notable neon hues. Viola Davis stood out in a sleek Louis Vuitton number. And Kaley Cuoco made a statement in hot pink Prabal Gurung.

Check out all the truly striking looks spotted at the 2021 SAG Awards below.

US InStyle December 2020 : Viola Davis by AB+DMYou’ve got to hand it to Laura Brown. She’s managed to steer InStyle through 2020 with effortless ease without resorting to illustrated covers or combined issues. Instead, the magazine has offered beautiful installments featuring Kerry Washington, Carey Mulligan, Alicia Keys, Zendaya and Cynthia Erivo. Closing out the year with a bang, Laura makes Viola Davis the mag’s cover star for December 2020. Captured by photographic duo AB+DM and styled by Elizabeth Stewart, the American actress suits up in a houndstooth Wolk Morais creation for the bold newsstand cover.

But our forum members thought something was off. “Oh wow, what a HORRIBLE shot of her. From the styling to that god-awful makeup, ugh! We see Viola so rarely on covers and they do this to her?” proclaimed Miss Dalloway. “What on earth?” exclaimed MON. Urban Stylin was clearly not a fan: “The cover doesn’t work for her, that type of styling would probably for a teen or someone in their early 20s like Zendaya… The angle and harsh makeup are not helping, either.”

“I usually love houndstooth, but that’s overload. The outfit wears her instead of the other way around. Viola looks best with minimal, understated styling. This just looks wrong on so many levels,” said Ken Doll Jenner. “I’m sorry, but whoever did her hair and makeup should be sacked. Doesn’t look anything like her,” Benn98 pointed out. Although [Piece Of Me] disagreed. “I am definitely biased, as I love everything Viola does, so I do like the cover. It’s maybe not her best shot (and does not come close to her amazing Vanity Fair cover earlier this year), but it feels like something different for her.” “That cover exudes confidence!” praised crmsnsnwflks. Vanity Fair July/August 2020 : Viola Davis by Dario Calmese

has clearly been hit or miss so far this year. Radhika Jones kicked off 2020 with a brilliant take on the magazine’s annual Hollywood installment, did Ana de Armas a disservice for March, gave us a joyous Reese Witherspoon for April and also left us scratching our heads over a questionable Janelle Monáe offering back in May. But we’ve just hit the jackpot with Vanity Fair’s latest thanks to a stunning Viola Davis cover for July/August 2020. Photographed by Dario Calmese (the first black photographer to capture the magazine’s front cover) and styled by Elizabeth Stewart, the Oscar-winning actress is a vision wearing a royal blue coat dress from Max Mara.

Our forum members were absolutely in awe. “Wow, the most beautiful cover of Vanity Fair in a long, long time,” admired caioherrero.

“Probably one of the best covers of the year if not of the last few years. Viola is one of my favorite famous people, incredibly talented and just an awesome human being. Glorious to see her covering Vanity Fair,” applauded [Piece Of Me].

“I’m in love. Viola is perfection,” admitted Velasco.

Also sharing the same level of enthusiasm toward the cover was vogue28: “A brilliant cover, definitely one to add to Radhika Jones’ finer moments editing Vanity Fair. It’s extremely eye-catching and arresting — love the blue overload, the use of the profile shot which highlights and complements Viola wonderfully. Zero complaints here!”

“It is quite a dark cover, but I think it makes her look alluring and mysterious yet also commanding. She’s rarely ever photographed this way so I like it for that reason!” said Yohji.

“The cover is STUNNING! Very dramatic, glamorous, the kind of cover we need right now,” appreciated jorgepalomo.

“Wow, I adore this cover so much. I can’t remember the last time I felt compelled to buy an issue of Vanity Fair, but I will definitely try to get my hands on this one,” declared tipi1355.

It seems like forever since we’ve had a red carpet event to fawn over. The 2019 Met Gala is a distant yet joyful memory and the last bit of glitter from this year’s Oscars was cleaned up ages ago. While the various fashion weeks have been providing plenty of fresh beauty ideas, we always love a little award show inspo. That’s why we were super excited for the 2019 Emmy Awards last night. Our craving for glamorous dresses, jewels and beauty looks has finally been satiated.

This year’s ceremony was chock-full of hair and makeup looks to obsess over, from statement ponytails to punchy lip colors. But even with all of the knockout beauty looks, there were some questionable decisions.

We were seeing double on the red purple carpet at the 2019 Emmy Awards. That’s because so many stars opted for half-and-half gowns, especially the red and pink variety. There were also a lot of looks in red or pink plus plunging necklines and see-through sections. And a couple of truly stunning suits. Check out the slideshow above to see who wore what.
