Tonight, the highly-anticipated closing ceremony took place, along with the presentation of the event’s top award – the Palme d’Or. As a result, there’s always cause for celebration whenever any of the 27 editions of Vogue from across the globe welcome a rare sight as their cover subject. Vogue Greece is in our good graces this month, as editor Thaleia Karafyllidou invites Eva Green onto a quartet of dazzling and high-glam covers (just in time for the festive period), a whole 15 years after her very first for British Vogue‘s January 2008 edition. The mesmerizing French actress dials up the glam via the lens of famed photographer Ellen von Unwerth for Greek Vogue‘s latest, wearing an array of pieces from Giambattista Valli, Louis Vuitton, Blumarine, Rick Owens – finished off with spectacular jewelry from Bulgari, Chopard and Cartier.

Needless to say, members of our forums welcomed Eva Green on the cover of Vogue with open arms – for the most part. “I love her. I wish she had more Vogue covers,” enthused caioherrero.
“The second cover barely look like her, then again I haven’t seen/paid attention to her in a while,” forum member thenewclassic wrote.
“Oh my… the skin retouching,” BlueRuin pointed out.
“Neither of the covers are amazing which is really sad considering it’s Eva Green! In every single one there’s a detail that ruins the cover but I guess the last one is probably the best one,” noted WAVES.
Sharing the same underwhelming sentiments toward the outcome was penny609: “These covers had a lot of high potential but something looks wrong somehow!”
Also not buying it was vogue28, commenting: “Never understood the appeal of Ellen von Unwerth’s work but have always adored Eva Green, so feel somewhat cheated by this. I’m a fan of the first cover and the fourth with the dog but the amount of post-production on the second cover is insulting!”

Unlike the vast majority of fashion brands, Alexander McQueen prefers to switch things up when it comes to commissioning photographers to shoot their advertising campaigns. Since Spring 2020, we’ve encountered the works of Jamie Hawkesworth, Paolo Roversi, Steven Meisel, Jonas Akerlund and now David Sims for Fall 2023. Aside from Naomi Campbell, the casting gets a refresh this season too, as Elle Fanning, Liu Wen, Karolina Spakowski, Eva Green, Yseult, Momo Ndiaye and Eliott De Smedt Day star in the campaign. The assortment of models and actresses handpicked by the brand’s (soon-to-depart) creative director Sarah Burton, each pose solo throughout the series of studio-shot campaign images.

Ultimately, the end result failed to impress members of theFashionSpot forums. “It looks like something fan-made. Amateur on stratospheric levels!” exclaimed DK92.
“What a waste of Eva Green,” shrieked Golden Petals.
“Eva Green and Alexander McQueen should have been spectacular,” cried out Ema98.
Also not buying it was vogue28, adding: “Eva Green on her own or Naomi Campbell on her own would have made more sense, as opposed to this random casting lineup. All of this just feels like a total non-event of a campaign, despite having all the components for a strong offering. A massive disappointment, and a massively missed opportunity.”
“I don’t think Elle Fanning is an Alexander McQueen woman, no matter how much she may frown and try to look edgy. Also, has Naomi forgotten how to model?” asked woemwoem.

Unfortunately what they did with her is rather underwhelming. Hate that grey background, especially for an August cover.”

Nepenthes agreed, “Eva Green is one of the most talented actresses out there and such a stunning woman. I’ve been a big fan of hers since I saw Camelot. That said, considering the recent projects she’s part of (Penny Dreadful and Miss Peregrine), I wish they would have taken it a bit further creatively by pushing the styling/art direction.”

“The cover is nice but rather nondescript. It’s lovely to see Eva, she has to have more covers!” declared Nymphaea.
