Tonight, the highly-anticipated closing ceremony took place, along with the presentation of the event’s top award – the Palme d’Or. Should you need reminding: ahead of the opening of the “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibit at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the stars took to the iconic New York landmark and opened up the archives of a whole multitude of fashion houses, to awaken some truly spectacular fashion, in honor of “The Garden of Time” dress code. Last night, stars from the world of fashion, film, music and entertainment were out in full force to celebrate the opening of The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibit.

Naturally, the most buzz-worthy spectacle on the fashion calendar generated a vast amount of show-stopping fashion moments for us to sit back and fawn over. The “The Garden of Time” dress code, inspired by a short story from 1962 of the same title by J.G. Ballard could have perhaps been interpreted in a variety of different ways. As expected, however, a whole multitude of archival magic was unearthed and florals for spring actually proved to be somewhat… groundbreaking.

Kim Kardashian requested Maison Margiela’s John Galliano create a haute couture look composed of a pale grey cashmere cardigan, a corset rewoven from antique silver brocade and a skirt in tooled silver metal evoking lace and florals. A staggering 98,000 crystals later and Anok Yai hit the famed steps of the 2024 Met Gala in a custom Swarovski creation while South African singer required a little help up the stairs, essentially donning a Balmain sand sculpture. Zendaya opted for not one but two breathtaking looks. This year’s Met Gala co-host first descended upon the event showcasing a striking ocean-blue gown by John Galliano for Maison Margiela that included a dramatic matching headpiece. The undisputed style icon later ventured up the steps again in a black archival look from Givenchy’s Spring 1996 haute couture collection (designed by the late Alexander McQueen). Inspired by a Richard Avedon photograph, Nicole Kidman asked Balenciaga’s Denma to breath new life into an original monochromatic Cristóbal Balenciaga creation from 1951 while Demi Moore hit all the right notes in a Harris Reed confection.

You can’t blame us either, as the publication serves up the goods on the regular (case in point being last month’s high-glam cover starring Sofia Richie Grainge). Glamour remains high on the agenda for October 2023 also, with editor Stellene Volandes securing actresses Diane Lane (in Ralph Lauren), Demi Moore (in Nina Ricci) and Chloë Sevigny (in Valentino) as cover stars, who’re each set to star alongside one another in FX’s Feud: Capote vs. The Swans. For T&C‘s latest cover shoot, the ladies come together within the gilded grand ballroom of The Plaza hotel in New York and strike a pose via the lens of photographer Ruven Afanador.

Town & Country struck gold amongst our forum members. “The cover is fun, and I absolutely can’t wait for the show,” raved KINGofVERSAILLES.
