Subsequent to being installed as head of editorial content at Vogue Italia, Francesca Ragazzi has undoubtedly made an effort to support and champion homegrown talent. A whole new generation of Italian models graced the February issue while the likes of Benedetta Porcaroli, Matilda De Angelis, Vittoria Ceretti, Donatella Versace and Chiara Ferragni have covered the Italian fashion bible throughout Ragazzi’s tenure. For Vogue Italia’s digital offering for June 2024, Laura Pausini makes an appearance via the lens of Sebastián Faena. The celebrated Italian singer-songwriter poses on the cover to commemorate her 50th birthday, and strikes a pose beofre Faena’s lens wearing a look from Peter Hawkings’ debut Tom Ford collection for Spring 2024.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“Good god, I can’t even look at Vogue Italia anymore,” cried out aracic.

“This team is clueless, not worthy of our comments anymore,” declared an unamused ah ah.

“Poor Laura,” shrieked Alquimista, also suggest the shoot wasn’t up to scratch.

Xone wasn’t buying it either, expressing: “I’m sure a local talent would’ve made this much much better!”

“I am not familiar with Laura Pausini’s music but from photos she seems to be photogenic and have great style. Nsure how they ended up with that cover,” Urban Stylin chimed in.

” She should have stared deeply into the camera and it would’ve been a good cover,” shared oaklee91.

Yet not everyone was so disappointed. “No clue who Laura Pausini is, and at first glance I thought this was Béatrice Dalle. Quite like the cover though, by no means is it the worst Vogue Italia cover I’ve came across and I like the sense of retro I’m getting from it,” defended vogue28.

You can imagine our excitement and complete bewilderment, subsequent to a slew of deeply unimpressive covers starring Solange Knowles, Lana Del Rey and Leanne de Haan over recent months, when covers of Harper’s Bazaar with Regina King, Anok Yai and Christy Turlington began to rock our world. It appears, however, things are back to square one with the unveiling of Bazaar‘s depressing and lifeless-looking double June/July 2024 cover. Samira Nasr welcomes Emma Corrin as cover star for the occasion, who captured by photographer Sam Rock, is dressed by the mag’s newly-installed style director Carlos Nazario in a Miu Miu vest top and briefs (Miu Miu being, of course, a brand to which Corrin is brand ambassador).

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“This? After Regina and Anok’s successful covers? No, thank you,” crmsn immediately disapproved.

“Honestly, I was rooting so hard for American Harper’s Bazaar. I see we’re back to square one here. Dumbfounded over Samira Nasr expecting people to part with their hard-earned money for such an abysmal cover. Where’s the allure? Where’s the charm?” asked vogue28.

MModa wasn’t buying it either, declaring: “This dud of a cover sums up the editor’s aesthetic.”

Also deeply unimpressed was NYLA22, voicing: “When I see covers like this, it makes me think that editors are making magazines for themselves. Harper’s Bazaar is a mass, mainstream fashion publication and I don’t really know who this is for!”

“Was really hoping that woke fashion mag covers were finally behind us. Guess not,” sighed Handbag Queen.

“Honestly with a different look, it could have been lovely. This dull beige Miu Miu set is not helping,” commented forum member GivenchyAddict.

Here on theFashionSpot, we’re always down for being completely enthralled and bewitched by a magazine which doesn’t stimulate our interest on the regular. This month, London-based biannual title Marfa Journal has our undivided attention, as the publication’s editor and founder Alexandra Gordienko welcomes Agyness Deyn back into the fold, fresh from an appearance at Burberry’s Fall 2024 showcase during London Fashion Week. Gordienko, a Central Saint Martin’s graduate who founded Marfa Journal in 2013, commissioned forum favorite Ethan James Green to document the British model, with the Issue 21’s cover shoot complete with styling from Emma Alix Wyman. Deyn strikes a handful of poses within Green’s studio in the dynamic cover shot, prancing about in an all-black look from Nicolas Ghesquière’s Spring 2024 Louis Vuitton collection.

“Oh, Ethan! Giving us what Steven Meisel won’t, I guess. Fabulous,” heralded aracic.

Vogue could never. Absolutely loving this, easily one of the best covers/fashion shoots I’ve come across this whole entire month. Wonderful to see Agyness Deyn and I will always be down for Ethan James Green doing his best Steven Meisel impersonation,” vogue28 enthused.

Also equally as impressed was Scotty: “I love it. The Meisel treatment with actual proper models! We need Snejana Onopka by EJG now!”

“I’m happy to see Agyness Deyn back and it’s no novelty that EJG is following on Meisel’s footsteps in terms of photography,” noted WAVES.

“So happy to see Agyness back,” Bertrando3 heralded.

Not everyone, however, was so forthcoming. “I could never warm up to Agyness when she was happening. Something about her just annoys me and I can’t figure out what it is,” shared Cocteau Stone.

Vogue Japan June 2024 : Kate Moss by Nikolai von Bismarck

You’re about to see a whole lot more of Kate Moss down at your local newsstand. After all, the powers that be at Condé Nast are making full use of their recent fashion story with the iconic Brit model, from the pages of British Vogue‘s May 2024 installment. Said shoot, lensed by Nikolai von Bismarck, has since turned up on the covers of Vogue Germany, Vogue Taiwan and now Vogue Japan. As opposed to her German and Taiwanese counterparts who opted for a photograph of Kate in full-color, Japanese Vogue‘s Tiffany Godoy selected a black and white shot the current face of Fendi, Balenciaga and Anine Bing for June 2024. In the classic and timeless portrait, Moss (who appeared on the magazine’s inaugural issue for September 1999 and was last on the cover in April 2012) is dressed by Kate Phelan in Chanel.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“My favorite of the [recent] Kate Moss covers,” instantly approved kokobombon.

“I’ve found all three covers of Vogue with Kate by Nikolai von Bismark to be solid. One of the very rare occasions in which I’m able to stomach Condé Nast’s shared content strategy. I love the look of this, can appreciate the use of the black and white and the soft lilac masthead which complements the shot beautifully. It’s all just so well done,” commended vogue28.

Also an admirer was forum member jeremydante: “This is pretty. I love this angle and the hair.”

Not everyone, however, with in agreement. “I see they went for a painting instead of a photo. Creative,” voiced Alquimista, suggesting some serious post-production has occurred.

“I miss the old Vogue Japan/Nippon,” sighed MON.

Right here on theFashionSpot, we’ve been praising the efforts of Vogue Brazil’s Paula Merlo to no end. After all, the magazine’s editor has made a solid attempt in supporting homegrown talents. Valentina Samoaio, Barbara Valente and Maria Klaumann have each graced covers over recent months. Merlo, however, is attempting to switch things up with unveiling of the 49th anniversary issue – welcoming an American model as cover girl. Give it up for Paloma Elsesser who graces a duo of delightful covers for May 2024, lensed by photographer Zee Nunes. Dressed by stylist Rita Lazzarotti, Elsesser (who already has covers of American Vogue, Vogue Mexico and M Le Magazine du Monde to name a few) is all smiles in the joyous first cover (below) wearing a Patricia Von Musulin jacket and a stack of Renata Buzzo bracelets. In the second alternative (after the jump), Paloma is decked out in a head-to-toe look from Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring 2024 collection.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

Vogue Brazil started the year very well, only to have a horrible cover for the anniversary edition,” cried out an underwhelmed caioherrero.

“Terrible covers from a terrible model,” Alquimista chimed in.

“Both of the photographs are not cover material. I think that Paloma looks quite good on the second cover but the tinfoil bed is just a terrible prop. Very weak covers for an anniversary issue,” added MModa.

In complete agreement was Alejandra Isami, echoing: “Kinda disappointing for their anniversary cover!”

Yet not everyone was left so disappointed. “The first cover is really beautiful. I love Paloma Elsesser’s expression, the styling and energy,” Wolkfolk reasoned.

“I’m able to appreciate the sense of joy the first cover radiates. I also love the head-to-toe Dolce & Gabbana on the second cover. However, for an anniversary issue, these are seriously lacking,” vogue28 critiqued.

Amelia Gray is undoubtedly one of the models-of-the-moment within the world of fashion. During the recent Fall 2024 season of Paris Fashion Week alone, the American beauty walked the shows of Courrèges, Off-White, Givenchy, Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood, Ann Demeulemeester, Mugler, Chanel, Miu Miu and Lacoste. Not to mention becoming the face of Balenciaga and fronting the cover of Vogue Spain. Impressive, right? Gray’s latest addition to her ever-growing portfolio includes not one but four covers of W Korea. Captured by photographic duo Sean + Seng and complete with Nicola Formichetti reporting for styling duties, the rising fave within the industry poses across the quartet of collectable covers for Volume #5 2024, dripping in numerous covetable pieces of jewelry from Tiffany & Co.

Glamour on top of glamour will always and forever be a good idea. There’s simply no other magazine on the planet who understands OTT glamour like Vogue Arabia. Since it’s inception in 2017, cover stars like Iman, Kim Kardashian, Lily Collins, Precious Lee, Sharon Stone, Cindy Crawford and Penélope Cruz have all dialed up the glam via the Arabian fashion title’s front covers. Manuel Arnaut welcomes Salma Hayek Pinault as Vogue Arabia’s May 2024 cover star, who amps up the glamour tenfold across a trio of terrific covers. Photographed by Cuneyt Akeroglu and styled by Amine Jreissati, the Mexican-American actress (and wife of Kering’s François-Henri Pinault) is decked out in looks from Kering-owned fashion houses Gucci, Balenciaga and Alexander McQueen – in addition to statement jewelry from Boucheron.

“The best Salma Hayek Pinault has ever looked. These are stunning covers but the first is really powerful. I’ve missed Cuneyt Akeroglu photographing covers,” voiced marsnoop2.

Urban Stylin enthused: “I was hoping they gave Hayek the full Vogue Arabia treatment and am glad they did. They are all very glamorous but the first one takes the cake!”

“Gorgeous Hollywood-level production. Everything is on point. This is what we want!” Nimsay declared.

“Glamour on top of glamour, and I am 110% here for it! Absolutely love all three covers and Salma Hayek’s accompanying shoot, who has photographed just wonderfully here. The beauty styling undoubtedly does Hayek justice here – Salma looks FLAWLESS,” echoed vogue28.

Make no mistake that Vogue Turkey is on our radar. The magazine has our undivided attention here at theFashionSpot, all thanks to Debora Zakuto’s choice in cover models of late. Constance Jablonski, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Grace Elizabeth, Beauïse Genç and Lila Moss have covered the Turkish fashion bible over recent months, with Zakuto adding Stella Maxwell to the list with the unveiling of the May 2024 issue. Via the lens of photographer Emre Unal, the Belgian-Irish beauty poses on a patch on grass in the season-appropriate cover shot. “Not good,” stated caioherrero the moment the cover struck.

“No. She looks like any random young socialite. Feels like daddy paid for the cover to happen,” voiced an underwhelmed FAdS.

“It does feel very socialite,” tigerrouge chimed in. “And the background looks much more naturalistic than she does. The garish pattern helps distract the eye at first, but in areas with plain hair and skin, she’s got that unnatural “outline” that comes from post-processing.”

Mrs.T was in complete agreement, commenting: “Never got Stella Maxwell’s appeal as a model. I agree, here, she looks more like socialite than a model. The cover overall is not good or groundbreaking.”

Not everyone, however, shared the same sentiments. “I beg to differ, I like it. Florals for spring? Yes! She looks like a bed of flowers and it’s beautiful,” defended oaklee91.

“I’m with you,” replied vogue28. “Don’t mind the sight of this cover either, think it’s very easy on the eye, feels appropriate for a May issue.”

Nina Garcia stays winning at American ELLE. After all, Garcia (who has served as editor-in-chief since 2017) continues to secure the crème de la crème of the world of fashion and entertainment as the magazine’s cover stars. Everyone from Vittoria Ceretti and Nicole Kidman to Irina Shayk and Dua Lipa have graced the Hearst-owned title of late, with Anya Taylor-Joy added to the list with the unveiling of ELLE‘s double June/July 2024 edition. Garcia welcomes the actress and star of George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga three years after her last, to pose for photographer Dan Martensen and get dressed up by stylist Anastasia Barbieri. ELLE has been the best of the mainstream American fashion mags lately,” NYLA22 enthused.

Phuel shared the exact same sentiments, echoing: “ELLE easily stomps all over Vogue these days!”

Yet not everyone was so forthcoming. “Nothing says ‘June/July issue’ quite like the cover star bundled up indoors wearing a big fuzzy turtleneck in holiday colors,” critiqued KoV.

“My least favorite covers of American ELLE in what feels like a very VERY long time. Massively underwhelmed by this. Not a fan of how cold, lifeless and sterile it’s all looking for a double June/July offering. Dan Martensen’s photography and Anastasia Barbieri is amateur beyond belief here!” voiced vogue28.

Inés Lorenzo welcomes the American beauty as Vogue Spain’s cover girl for May 2024, marking Gray’s second Vogue cover appearance as a fully-fledged model.
