Hedi Slimane has been the most talked-about designer over recent weeks, subsequent to the rampant rumors swirling that the designer is to leave his post as Celine creative director. Today, Slimane unveiled his Winter 2024 collection for Celine Menswear, his 22nd as the creative force behind the French fashion house. Titled “Symphonie Fantastique”, from the French composer Hector Berlioz’s 1830 symphony, Slimane transports us to the Mojave Desert located between Los Angeles and Las Vegas on Interstate 15 to present his latest lineup. Slimane’s army of models storm the deserted highway, donning the designer’s signature razor-sharp tailoring, each of the looks infused with a modish elegance and Americana spirit.

Hedi Slimane (the most talked-about designer in recent weeks) first unveiled Celine Haute Parfumerie to the world back in 2019. The Celine creative director adds another fragrance to the lineup for 2024 with the introduction of Zouzou, inspired by Slimane’s obsession with 1960s youth culture. To coincide with the release of Zouzou, Slimane himself (obvi) goes behind the lens for the accompanying advertising campaign. The French designer who has been at the helm of the storied French fashion Maison since 2018 called upon Esther-Rose McGregor to be the face of the scent, with the British-American actress and daughter of actor Ewan McGregor morphing into icons of the 60s (like Jean Seberg and Tiwggy) in the immaculate and utterly flawless portrait campaign image.

Rumors remain rife within the fashion industry that Hedi Slimane is set to depart Celine as creative director.

Earlier this week, it was first reported (via Business of Fashion) that Slimane is in active contract renegotiations, following the famed French fashion designer’s six-year contract with LVMH coming to an end in early 2024. Further reports (via WWD) have since suggested the powers that be at LVMH HQ may even have a successor in the form of Michael Rider, who is currently the creative force behind Polo Ralph Lauren in New York. The suspense for any formal announcements are killing us here at theFashionSpot.

Slimane joined Celine in 2018, following the departure of Phoebe Philo. Subsequent to signing on the dotted line, the fashion pack have sat back and watched Slimane transform and propel the fashion house founded in 1945 by Céline Vipiana to new heights. Revenues surpassed $2.1 billion in 2023 (a record high for the brand) and back in March, coinciding with the release of the 60s-inspired Fall 2024 collection, Celine announced a new beauty line is in the works and set to hit the market in January 2025.

In 2020, V Magazine declared Kaia Gerber as part of the next generation of supermodels. At 18, the daughter of fashion royalty Cindy Crawford starred alongside the likes of Adut Akech, Grace Elizabeth and Rianne van Rompaey for a lengthy fashion portfolio by Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin.

Since then, the all-American beauty has certainly proved her worth and has been endorsed by just about every major fashion brand from Louis Vuitton to Valentino and appeared on the covers of Vogue Japan, ELLE, D la Repubblica and WSJ. Magazine to name just a very select few.

Now, V Magazine welcomes the all-American beauty back as cover girl, four years after her last.

To coincide with the release of AppleTV+’s Palm Royale, the model-turned-actress joins Penélope Cruz as V Magazine‘s #147 Spring 2024 cover star. Kaia reunites with photographer Mario Sorrenti for the occasion, having previously collaborated together for i-D Magazine back in 2018.

Across a duo of limited edition black and white covers, Kaia becomes the personification of rock and roll chic. In cover one (above), the Cindy Crawford mini-me is styled by Nicola Formichetti wearing a look from Celine by Hedi Slimane (a fashion label to which Gerber has been the face of on multiple occasions). One week after Paris Fashion Week came to an almighty close, Hedi Slimane is attempting to keep the fashion momentum alive and kicking, with the unveiling of his latest Celine collection for the Fall 2024 season.

Standard practice with Slimane, zero buzz-worthy runway spectacle took place but instead a short film was released to declare the collection’s arrival. Staged within a handful of famous Parisian venues, including the Salle Pleyel concert hall, La Maison de la Chimie and the Musée Bourdelle, models strolled the lavish surroundings dressed in Slimane’s collection which is an ode to the late Richard Avedon. Slimane’s latest, titled “La collection de l’arc de triomphe,” is also an homage to the 60s which the French designer refers to as “the golden age of Celine” and presented a lineup of A-line silhouettes (with razor-shop precision), go-go boots, vibrant patterns and statement sunglasses – a whole new take on the babydoll look. A total of 20 one-of-a-kind couture looks were splashed throughout the offering, in addition to the ready-to-wear looks.

Everyone loves a flashback, right? Here at theFashionSpot, ahead of us descending upon each fashion capital, we’ve been flashing it back a whole decade to the Fall 2014 season of New York, London, Milan and now Paris Fashion Week.

Just like in the other cities, the fashion landscape was a whole lot different within the French capital. Raf Simons was the creative force behind Christian Dior, Hedi Slimane was heading up Saint Laurent, Riccardo Tisci was still proving every inch his worth at Givenchy and Alexander Wang presented his third mainline collection for Balenciaga while the much-loved Phoebe Philo was still winning us over at Celine.

John Galliano’s eponymous label was a fixture on the PFW schedule (designed by Bill Gaytten), as was Haider Ackermann whose collection showcased the strength of the Colombian-born French designer’s innate design talent and impeccable skill. Anthony Vaccarello’s very own namesake creations were on full display too. The Fall 2014 season also bestowed upon us the late Karl Lagerfeld’s unforgettable supermarket spectacle at Chanel and Sarah Burton’s Alexander McQueen collection felt like a magical and mythological fairytale was coming to life before our very eyes.

The model who has since turned to the world of acting, graces the lens of forum favorite Lachlan Bailey on location in Miami, Florida and poses within the surroundings of a motel and down on the nearby beach. Dressed by stylist Geraldine Saglio, the all-American beauty rocks head-to-toe Celine in the nonchalant cover photograph.

In the past two months alone, we’ve bared witness to the American social media personality turned self-made business mogul start a new fashion venture in the form of Khy and front WSJ. Magazine. Not to mention throughout 2023, Kylie has graced the cover of Vanity Fair Italia and fronted campaigns for Dolce & Gabbana, Jean Paul Gaultier and Acne Studios. Mel Ottenberg welcomes Kylie as Interview’s latest cover star for Winter 2023, who poses via the lens of photographer Theo Liu for the occasion. In the intriguing and creative(?) cover image styled by Ottenberg himself, Kylie rocks a head-to-toe look from Celine by Hedi Slimane.

Per usual, members of theFashionSpot forums had a lot to say about Kylie’s latest. “Andy [Warhol], I can only mourn for you…” voiced DK92, suggesting the cover wasn’t worthy of praise.

Also far from impressed was forum member vogue28: “I honestly don’t mind the sight of Kylie Jenner but that’s one unattractive magazine cover! A far cry from the fabulousness that she delivered on Vanity Fair Italia by Luigi & Iango.”

“Exactly this,” replied KoV in agreement. “I remember one of Glenda Bailey’s last issues of Harper’s Bazaar, pre-Covid, was Kylie in Marie Antoinette mode and I loved it. Nothing she’s done in the nearly 4 years since has matched it!”

The competition between fashion titles is fierce, and within the Italian market, Harper’s Bazaar Italia continues to rise the ranks and outshine Vogue Italia. Under the direction of editor Daria Veledeeva, the publication goes from strength to strength, month after month, with the unveiling of each new issue. Fashion models Felice Nova Noordhoff, Mariacarla Boscono and Maty Fall have became cover girls in the process, and added to the list for November 2023 is Sun Mizrahi and América González. The pair pose for photographer Daniel Jackson across a duo of dynamic black and white covers. Complete with styling from Paul Sinclaire, the fashion beauties don looks from Hedi Slimane’s Celine and Anthony Vaccarello’s Saint Laurent.

This month, however, appeared to be a setback for Italian Bazaar in the eyes of our forum members. “Engaging… the covers are not,” critiqued MON.

“The two covers don’t excite me at all. Bland direction,” chimed in MModa.

“This magazine’s covers feel so bland, so boring and so empty. A magazine cover is an art. To create a cover it’s not just to stick the masthead logo, put a word on it and a call it a day. It takes WAY MORE CREATIVITY,” forum member Bertrando3 scolded.

Yet not everyone was so disapproving. “I love Sun’s strong features paired with that styling,” kokobombon admired.

“Two terrific covers from Daniel Jackson! Simplicity done right, love the black and white here. I genuinely do not have one single complaint about either of the covers. They feel quintessential Harper’s Bazaar, which I love! Harper’s Bazaar Italia wiping the floor with Vogue Italia this month,” enthused vogue28.
