“Wow Lara looks great here! I’m loving these covers, love the styling and the pose in the second cover – I might prefer this one,” Valentine27 chimed in.

“Well that’s a stunning pair of covers,” applauded forum member dodencebt.

Also loving the covers was magsaddict: “W Korea has far surpassed the original in terms of quality, while American W gets thinner and thinner and increasingly sloppy, W Korea rarely disappoints. Lara’s strongest cover in ages!”

“Flawless! It’s good to finally see something like this again,” admired Lola701.

“That’s the Lara I love,” wrote apple.

While our forum members are currently suffering from “Hadid fatigue,” Kendall Jenner claims her spot on the newsstand by making a return to the Korean edition of W for September 2017. Shot by master fashion photographer Patrick Demarchelier, the model, who just added Fendi’s Fall 2017 advertising campaign to her portfolio, stars on two different covers for the issue. Kendall poses before a simple gray background while letting Maria Grazia Chiuri’s latest collection for Christian Dior do the talking.

According to our forum members, the covers looked very familiar. “I like it! Reminds of that Vogue Paris cover with Laetitia [Casta] and Noémie [Lenoir],” pointed out MON upon checking out the two covers.

“Undeniably strong, a great cover for both Kendall and W Korea, who regularly churns out far superior covers than its mother magazine (Vogue Korea). As MON noted, it really echoes that VP cover with Laetitia and Noemie,” magsaddict wrote.

“Not bad. Maybe her facial expressions are getting better?” asked a pleasantly surprised A.D.C.

“I like both,” shared forum member Zposen. “Though she could have taken the second cover to another level with a fierce facial expression (if that makes sense). Her face is lackluster compared to that great pose.”

Echoing the same sentiments was dodencebt. “I like the second one better but only because of the body language, the styling and the composition. The face is still off and could have greatly improved the shot if it was on point, like Zposen said,” he replied.

“Nope, still blanker than blank,” laughed a disapproving KateTheGreatest.

Suzhie unapologetically described the covers as “lame.”

It’s safe to declare W Korea had a successful 2016, having served up some pretty fantastic covers with It girls Kendall Jenner, Karlie Kloss and Bella Hadid over the past twelve months. Now, in a move that shouldn’t surprise anyone, Korean W welcomes back Bella Hadid on its first cover of the year (exactly one month after sister Gigi gave Gisele Bündchen a run for her money). Opting to use a reprint for the January 2017 cover (usually a huge forum no-no), the Korean title ultimately makes good use of a haute couture fashion shoot from its American counterpart’s recent October issue, photographed by Venetia Scott.

The majority of our forum members actually liked what they saw. “A good choice of a reprint if you ask me. When the editorial first appeared in American W, I wasn’t all too impressed but I admire how W Korea have made this shot of Bella work in their favor with the layout, fonts and their choice of complementing colors. Those shades of blue are perfect for an icy January cover!” complemented vogue28.

“This shot actually works as a cover for me. It’s got that effortless mood, and her face isn’t perfection, for once. Love the colors. The editor really must love these Hadids,” Benn98 pointed out.

Sharing the same attitude toward the cover was PerfectTonight, writing, “I may be the only one in here, but I love the aloof feeling of Bella’s face, and the way she’s styled. The necklace [coordinates] with the canapé pillow under her arm perfectly. The colors are relaxing and soft. Especially the navy/cardinal and cold blues.”

“January can be a depressing month but does that need to be so vividly represented on the cover of a fashion magazine? Sheesh, she looks depressed/sulking, the color palette looks ill, the composition is lifeless and seems to smell of old attic. Plus, such dowdy styling — like she’s in brothel,” said Phuel, unafraid to make his feelings clear.

“Normally love everything Bella related, but this isn’t my favorite from her,” admitted TeeVanity.

So it should come as no surprise to see Gigi Hadid turn up on the cover of W Korea. The Korean title certainly knows who to grab, having already churned out covers with girls-of-the-moment Kendall Jenner, Karlie Kloss and Gigi’s sister Bella Hadid this year. Photographic duo Luigi & Iango captured Gigi for W‘s December offering, resulting in two vibrant covers for our forums to deliberate over.

Members of our forums couldn’t help but feel a little nostalgic while looking at Gigi’s latest. “The overall feel of both images reminded me of when Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott used to shoot the Louis Vuitton advertising campaigns,” pointed out vogue28.

“I echo your sentiments! There is either something wrong with me or Gigi is turning into a rather good model seeing that I’ve liked most of her work lately,” dodencebt added.

In agreement was fiqary, commenting, “Pretty good covers. And yes it has a M&M feel to the images.”

“Luigi & Iango keep doing M&M way better, they filled the void they left perfectly IMO,” laughed a presently surprised kokobombon.

Marsnoop2 liked what he saw, too: “LOVE. Total Gisele Bündchen circa 2008 vibes.”

Also a fan of the outcome was TeeVanity, praising, “WOW, these covers are lovely. When Gigi does it right she really does it right.”

“Another day, another cover. Gigi is becoming an icon in the industry, whether people like it/accept or not. She looks amazing and I love both covers,” raved guimon.

“W Korea finally injects some life into their covers. Gigi looks appropriately full of attitude – and more importantly, fresh,” noted Phuel.

“Karlie Moss?” asked a startled Nepenthes the second the cover came to light.

“Karlie? It looks like a hybrid between Moss and Kloss,” added a stunned madzedre.

Also unable to recognize her was Scotty, pointing out, “I thought that was Aline Weber or some other model… mess.”

“She looks like she’s trying to give us a Sasha [Pivovarova] look, but it looks so limp by comparison,” explained a disapproving Moofins.

Bertrando3 shared the same sentiments. “Aline-Sasha-Kate etc. They retouched Karlie SO SO SO much she does not look like herself and there is NOOOOO energy whatsoever and don’t get me started on the layout or the styling. It’s a fail. NEXT!” he declared in utter horror.

TREVOFASHIONISTO threw in: “To me she looks like Maryna [Linchuk].”

“I was thinking Magdalena [Frackowiak],” laughed kenndale, adding to the list.

“What’s the point of getting a certain successful model if you Photoshop her into another person?” questioned a frustrated KateTheGreatest.

Unlike Bella’s Spanish Bazaar cover, however, forum members weren’t so keen on the results. “Easily her ugliest covers to date. What have they done to her face? Oh and the second cover features such a weird angle. Too coy for Terry, can almost imagine him preferring an open leg shot instead. In a way I can deal with Bella’s career direction – let her build up momentum and practice with these smaller covers and edits. So that by the time she gets to Vogue at least she’ll be a bit more developed than the others,” proclaimed Benn98 the moment the covers dropped.

“I expected so much better,” disapproved MON.

“Down the drain,” simply stated an uninterested Nymphaea.

Aizanara wasn’t impressed either, ranting, “This is a no for me. Bella’s face looks weird and the styling doesn’t help. I like the first cover more than the second though.”

Showing favor for the second cover (below) was narcyza: “The second one it’s not so bad but I really can’t believe that anybody wants to work with Terry.”

TeeVanity soon shed some light on the covers, reasoning, “She looks stunning to me on both covers, these are expected Terry Richardson images.”

Per usual, our feisty forum members weren’t shy about voicing their opinions and dislike for Kendall’s modeling abilities. “Even Inez and Vinoodh can’t save Kendull. #GurlBye,” shared a less than impressed GreyVetiver immediately.

“She has the same expression on both her covers, not even the best photographers can help her,” replied KateTheGreatest in agreement.
Sharing the same disapproving sentiments was Marc10: “Her absolute lack of modeling skills and charisma is inexcusable. When her hype dies down, I hope they feel embarrassed when they look back at all these covers they gave her.”

“Shame, a waste of I&V. An exact replica of U.S. W‘s spread for the March 2016 issue and looks like outtakes from that same shoot… Good thing Kendall wasn’t included in that editorial,” acknowledged WeberFanatic.

“The second cover [below] is the best of a bad lot. I feel like she needed to be jumping around or smiling to produce a somewhat good shot,” suggested an uninterested Elite13.

MON wasn’t willing to show much enthusiasm either, pointing out, “Put this beside Lara Stone for Vogue Korea on the newsstands, and it’s nothing. Shame.”

Members of our forums were pleasantly surprised with the shoot. “Oh it’s quite nice, probably the best I’ve seen of her so far,” hailed KateTheGreatest the moment the first cover (above) dropped.

“I actually like it! Hmm W Korea seems to be trying more than Vogue Korea,” said a satisfied MON.

Also taking a shine to the cover was Aedlacir, raving, “It’s unconventional as a magazine cover but it has the right amount of edginess, that works in their favor. It’s a true reflection of Kate’s beauty.”

“Wow, I was not expecting to like this at all! She looks quite beautiful, probably the best I’ve ever seen her. The cover (although not very traditional) is just so romantic,” admitted a stunned marsnoop2.

Benn98 agreed, adding, “Wow, beautiful shot. I always thought she had a very plain look, but this proves me wrong.”

“Stunning cover: great photographer, great model and beautiful art direction,” complimented Tony Fersen.

MON kicked off discussions in our forums by exclaiming, “Perfect!” as soon as both covers surfaced.

“I didn’t realize there was a W Korea. This has definitely caught my attention. I like the closeup the best,” declared Aedlacir, selecting his favorite cover.

“Both covers are good,” fired back TeeVanity, suggesting it’s going to be a tough choice at the newsstand.

Also full of enthusiasm was Bertrando3. “These are really wonderful covers!” he applauded.

“Luigi & Iango should produce these type of covers for Vogue Germany as well! Love both versions though, perfection indeed. I’m not even mad about Lara Stone, but everything she shot in the past 6 months really bowled me over,” Benn98 admitted.

GIVENCHYlover described the cover as “stunning” with jal718 throwing the word “exceptional” into the mix.
