Since day one, we’ve known Nina Garcia to possess the ability to secure the crème de la crème of the world of fashion and entertainment for the magazine’s front covers. Not even four whole months into 2024 and Garcia has bestowed upon us covers with Penélope Cruz, Vittoria Ceretti, Nicole Kidman and recalls Dua Lipa as cover girl for April 2024 – an issue dedicated to music. Dan Beleiu was commissioned to capture the British-Albanian chart-topper who poses in the cover shot wearing a black Marc Jacobs dress and shoes, teamed with a pair of Calzedonia tights and Tiffany & Co. jewelry, as selected for the occasion by stylist Patti Wilson.

Christine Centenera has only officially been at the helm of Vogue Australia since March of this year, and within such a short space of time has managed to secure a whole bevy of A-list talent for the title’s front covers. These have included everyone from Hailey Bieber to Kylie Minogue and Adut Akech to Margot Robbie. Next up on the Australian fashion bible’s list of cover stars is Florence Pugh, who graces the November 2023 issue via the lens of photographer Lachlan Bailey. Aussie Vogue‘s latest marks the British actress’ third Vogue cover appearance in total (having appeared on American Vogue twice) and is dressed by Centenera for the occasion in a mohair Loewe jacket, a pair of Triangl swim shorts and Tiffany & Co. jewelry.

In the eyes of our forum members, one element in particular was somewhat… questionable. “Those [Triangl] grandma pants really make her look short,” critiqued oaklee91.

“The styling is so bad… ouch ouch ouch!” exclaimed an unforgiving 90sFan.

“I hate the styling (especially the color of the shorts and not the shorts per se) but Pugh looks gorgeous,” voiced forum member WAVES.

Not everyone was so completely disheartened with Vogue Australia’s latest. “The first time I like Florence,” confessed caioherrero.

“I thought it was going to be terrible but I actually really like it,” a pleasantly surprised kokobombon admitted.

“It’s the fact we’ve got ourselves another Lachlan Bailey-shot cover of Vogue that’s ultimately sealing the deal for me here. Could take or leave Florence Pugh but I will admit that I’m rather fond of this whole cover/cover shoot. The colors are gorgeous and its so tastefully and effortlessly shot by Bailey,” wrote vogue28.

Whether it’s Judi Dench (at 85) gracing British Vogue or Shakira finally getting the recognition she deserves via Vogue Mexico – we’re always 100% here for it. The same goes for this month’s Vogue Thailand offering, which sees Zoe Saldaña take to a duo of spectacular October 2023 covers. The American actress only first got her due as a Vogue cover girl back in December 2022 and is making up for lost time via the lens of Thomas Whiteside for her second Vogue cover appearance. Across the two delightful, elegant and poised covers, Zoe is decked out in looks from Bottega Veneta and Schiaparelli (as well as Tiffany & Co. jewelry), handpicked for the shoot especially by stylist Fabio Immediato.

Needless to say, members of our forums were impressed. “Gorgeous covers! One of the reasons she doesn’t get more Vogue covers, is because the general public isn’t interested in her, outside of tentpole films. Zoe also strikes me as someone who enjoys her low key status,” voiced mepps.
“I knew for 100% fact that I would love this, when I saw Thomas Whiteside’s name attached. He’s an absolute master of poised portrait photography, and these two covers only help cement the fact even more. The two covers are GORGEOUS, love every single element,” heralded vogue28.
“The messy hair ruined the first one but the second one is stunning,” admired Urban Stylin.
Oaklee91 agreed, commenting: “The second one is better!”
“Deserving! Anna [Wintour] is scared to give her a cover,” chimed in lanvinray.

On a very rare occasion is Asian representation accounted for down at the newsstand – especially when it comes to the British fashion glossies. Lydia Slater at British Harper’s Bazaar, however, breaks new ground and leads by example with the mag’s offering for the biggest fashion extravaganza of the year, welcoming Soo Joo Park as Bazaar‘s September 2023 cover girl. The model who became the first Asian-American woman to be a L’Oréal brand ambassador back in 2015 poses via the lens of photographer Boo George for the occasion, with stylist Cathy Kasterine selecting a monochromatic outfit from Prada’s Fall 2023 collection for the cover look (with some Tiffany & Co. jewelry completing the ensemble).

Despite such a wonderful addition to Soo Joo Park’s portfolio, members of our forums expected a whole lot more. “The ‘power of fashion’ with this outfit? Absolutely not,” declared Melancholybaby.
“A cover line declaring the power of fashion paired with the most stiff, lifeless and drab cover image is downright baffling to me – even more so for a September issue! I am dumbfounded, to be completely honest,” added vogue28 in agreement.
“I love Soo Joo but this is really bad. Her expression is strange (maybe because of retouching) and the stringy hair is not helping,” BlueRuin pointed out.
Also unimpressed was Handbag Queen: “Very lackluster for a September cover!”
“She looks painful and uncomfortable on the cover,” noted kasper
“A better photographer would’ve lifted this. A different model too, quite frankly. Why Soo Joo? Was Liu Wen or Fei Fei Sun busy? They have a stronger brand to carry an important September cover in the West. Or maybe Lina Zhang? I believe this might be the first time UK Bazaar is giving an Asian model the cover,” Benn98 shared.

It’s the most important time of the year for us fashion/magazine folk, as our favorite fashion glossies begin to unveil their all-important fashion editions of the year – the September issue!
First up, like clockwork, is Vogue Japan’s offering of the month. To kick-start the festivities, the magazine’s head of editorial content Tiffany Godoy selected none other than Hailey Bieber as the title’s cover star (reappearing on the mag’s front cover a whole five years after her last). Captured by photographer Richard Burbridge and with Patti Wilson on styling duties, the firm fave of Saint Laurent’s Anthony Vaccarello sports a look from the legendary French fashion house’s Fall 2023 collection in the cover shot – teamed with some Tiffany & Co. jewelry.

Needless to say, our unfiltered forum members were straight on the magazine’s case regarding the outcome. “I’ll give it to them – it actually conforms to being a traditional cover shot. It’s not some art school concept, flipped at an angle, cut off at the top, scrawled over with amateur fonts,” reasoned tigerrouge.
“I’m with you 100%,” responded vogue28. “The cover is far from stunning, and certainly doesn’t excite me but it’s the first Vogue Japan cover in months that feels… somewhat normal. I am very much a fan of the sight of Vaccarello’s Saint Laurent, those autumnal colors and the warmth this cover radiates – especially for a September cover.”
Sharing the same enthusiasm was MyNameIs, adding: “I like it. Sleek, glamorous, and beautiful. Not often you see that in fashion these days, which is a shame!”
However, not everyone was so forthcoming. “Out of all the nepo and reality TV models she is easily the worst. She has zero presence. The clothes always just consume her completely,” voiced Gary89.
“Does she know how to close her mouth? Her facial expression is terrible and always the same,” disapproved forum member JPineapple.
“Oddly, I like this. I feel like I shouldn’t though. Maybe our universal standards have just fallen so much,” commented marsnoop2.
