In 2020, V Magazine declared Kaia Gerber as part of the next generation of supermodels. At 18, the daughter of fashion royalty Cindy Crawford starred alongside the likes of Adut Akech, Grace Elizabeth and Rianne van Rompaey for a lengthy fashion portfolio by Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin.

Since then, the all-American beauty has certainly proved her worth and has been endorsed by just about every major fashion brand from Louis Vuitton to Valentino and appeared on the covers of Vogue Japan, ELLE, D la Repubblica and WSJ. Magazine to name just a very select few.

Now, V Magazine welcomes the all-American beauty back as cover girl, four years after her last.

To coincide with the release of AppleTV+’s Palm Royale, the model-turned-actress joins Penélope Cruz as V Magazine‘s #147 Spring 2024 cover star. Kaia reunites with photographer Mario Sorrenti for the occasion, having previously collaborated together for i-D Magazine back in 2018.

Across a duo of limited edition black and white covers, Kaia becomes the personification of rock and roll chic. In cover one (above), the Cindy Crawford mini-me is styled by Nicola Formichetti wearing a look from Celine by Hedi Slimane (a fashion label to which Gerber has been the face of on multiple occasions). Formechetti also dresses the fashion industry fave in another head-to-toe Celine look for the second equally as fabulous cover (below).

Under the control of Nina Garcia, the publication is a pillar of strength and outdoes the competition with an effortless ease – just about every single month. Garcia continues to flex her ability to drop covers with A-list talent and has counted the likes of screen superstar Penélope Cruz and mega model Vittoria Ceretti as cover stars in 2024 alone. Added to the list with the unveiling of the April 2024 installment is Australian-American actress Nicole Kidman. Shot by photographer Mario Sorrenti and with Nicola Formichetti reporting for styling duties, Nicole is profiled across a trio of dynamic and fashion-forward covers donning new season looks from Saint Laurent, Dolce & Gabbana, Balenciaga (a brand to which Kidman is brand ambassador) and Cartier jewelry.

It is always a much-welcomed and refreshing sight to see different faces greet us on magazine covers down at the newsstand, and Radhika Jones at Vanity Fair receives the memo loud and clear this month, as the mag’s editor-in-chief bestows upon us Riley Keough as VF‘s September 2023 cover star. To mark the occasion, Jones commissioned photographer Mario Sorrenti (who has previously shot the likes of Margot Robbie and Scarlett Johansson for the magazine) to profile the American actress and granddaughter of the late Elvis Presley. Complete with styling from Nicola Formichetti, Riley (fresh from the cover of Vogue Australia) reclines on a tan leather sofa in the nonchalant cover image, wearing an Emporio Armani top, black Giorgio Armani leggings, Jimmy Choo heels and Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry.

“What a weird position… she looks drunk!” immediately called out DK92 upon seeing the cover.
“Her head looks like it’s coming out of the couch and that’s just a prop mannequin body,” chimed in kikifoz.
Also not feeling the pose was Urban Stylin, adding: “The colors are nice but she looks too severe and that slouch is not it.”
“Considering they’ve taken this at truly the worst angle for just about anyone, she looks good,” honeycombchild confessed.
“I quite like it! Fashion-forward and a little bit of an old-school Vogue Paris (by Carine Roitfeld) vibe,” noted forum member kasper!.
“Not a fan of the slouched cover look but I’m a little bit in love with Mario Sorrenti’s cover story here, and it’s nice to be surprised with a cover subject like Riley Keough for once. She’s has photographed rather well before Sorrenti’s lens, love the long red hair, the styling and the overall mood of the shoot,” vogue28 approved.

It was only a matter of time before Olivia Rodrigo made another big splash down at newsstands after landing her first major fashion magazine cover with ELLE‘s May 2021 offering. Leave it to V Magazine to take the plunge as the American singer/songwriter and actress graces the publication’s latest. Stephen Gan has been impressing us to no end lately following a series of remarkable Summer 2021 and Fall Preview 2021 covers. For Fall 2021, Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin snap a trio of black and white covers out on the streets of New York City all styled by Nicola Formichetti.

The covers ultimately flopped on our forums. “Wow, I barely recognized her. Not that she has a particularly memorable face, but that eye makeup and styling in general are really heavy on her,” noted WinstonH20.

“A simple studio setting from Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin would’ve sufficed because mixed with Nicola Formichetti’s styling and the beauty styling — I’m not impressed. The styling and direction of the whole shoot feel far too heavy for a girl of 18!” echoed vogue28.

“Angles, angles, angles… I know she’s brand new, but someone needs to teach her how to work her light. This shoot does her no favors,” voiced an underwhelmed zoom.

SLFC felt the same way: “I think the second cover only works, the angles of the rest just look awkward.”

“Not a fan of this take on her,” RedSmokeRise chimed in.

“Olivia is always portrayed like some emo 13- to 14-year-old even in magazines and the embarrassment is real with this one,” declared McKinney.

“She has this bland/anemic demeanor and they did her no favors by shooting her in black and white…” stated YohjiAddict.

We’ll race you down to the newsstand. “Why yes, thank you Allure for serving the best September cover so far!!! So fabulous, Hunter’s such a star! Beyond thrilled to see her,” raved aracic.

“Wow! That’s Fashion with a capital F!” applauded GERGIN.

“GASP! This is stunning! 10 out of 10,” cheered an equally impressed Lucien112.

Our newsstands are usually littered with the same old cover stars so we always applaud our favorite glossies when they welcome fresh new blood, especially while breaking down barriers. Allure was pretty good to us throughout 2019, embracing the likes of Sharon Stone, Naomi Osaka, Ashley Graham, Adut Akech and Gemma Chan as cover stars. Now the mag starts the new year and new decade with a history-making move by picking Billy Porter as the first male to ever cover the beauty-focused title. Photographed by Ben Hassett and styled by Nicola Formichetti, the Like a Boss star serves good face in the bold February 2020 cover shot.

According to our forum members, the cover was a missed opportunity. “I should like this more, but I don’t. You’ve got the clashing fonts, the off eyebrow art and a white masthead. Whose choice was that?” wondered an unimpressed Benn98.

“Agree completely. A missed opportunity,” responded KINGofVERSAILLES.

“I welcome the idea that anyone who makes a statement with their fashion or beauty styling can appear on the cover of Allure, but the end product still has to be worth looking at to convince me to buy it. The eyebrows remind me of the sheets of sticky geometric shapes that young children are encouraged to play with,” mocked tigerrouge.

Forum member aracic wasn’t jumping for joy, either. “I definitely feel like the gay in me should be quaking, but he’s not. We both hate it! I love Billy a lot, but clearly not enough to tolerate this buffoonery. Geometric cut-outs, neon lights and glitter…could they be any more basic?”

“Why does a man have to squeeze himself onto an Allure cover? How pointless,” voiced Srdjan.

“Allure is a beauty magazine and the last time I checked, beauty has no gender. It’s far from pointless, especially in today’s political climate, IMO,” defended slayage.

Lady Gaga is set to become a makeup mogul thanks to her new beauty brand Haus Laboratories. So what better way to promote your new makeup range than on the cover of Allure? Gaga is the mag’s October 2019 cover star sporting a face full of her own makeup applied flawlessly by makeup artist Sarah Tanno. Photographed by Daniel Jackson with Nicola Formichetti on styling duties, the Oscar-winning songstress poses before a stark white backdrop, allowing the fierce makeup look to do all the talking for the commanding cover shot.

The cover received mixed feedback from our forum members. “I like that Allure cover, mainly for its unabashed focus on a made-up face. None of their usual ‘natural is best‘ coyness when a celebrity wants you to put their products front and center,” admired tigerrouge.

“Instantly liked this upon first look, love the lighting, the makeup and the overall fierceness from Lady Gaga here. I can appreciate the simplicity of the cover, how the white background and minimal cover lines allow the image to do the talking…” echoed vogue28.

“The makeup is on point, the hair is not,” called out fluxxx.

“I love it, I don’t mind the hair…actually looks good,” confessed jorgepalomo.

Forum member aracic wasn’t so quick to bash the outcome. “God, she’s so beautiful and striking that the horrible hair and cheap-looking ‘turban used as a dress’ completely fade away.”

Attention Little Monsters: Now you can relive some of Mother Monster‘s greatest (fashion) moments thanks to a new exhibit. The Haus of Gaga, curated by Nicola Formichetti, shows off around 40 pieces of clothing, accessories, wigs and even makeup from Lady Gaga’s personal archive. You’ll love seeing the custom Versace bodysuits worn for her 2017 Super Bowl performance, the shades made out of cigarettes from her music video “Telephone” and, of course, that infamous meat dress.

The museum opens today next to the Park MGM in Las Vegas, where the singer’s residency is in full swing. There’s no admission fee, but visitors have the opportunity to donate to the Born This Way Foundation. The Haus of Gaga will be on display until November.

Over the past year, it has become evident that V Magazine is no longer the cutting-edge publication it once was. Actress Daisy Ridley attempted ladylike glamour on the last issue and now Sam Smith is the magazine’s latest attempt to get our attention on the cover of Issue #111 Spring 2018. Photographed by Nicola Formichetti, the Brit singer-songwriter is joined by model-of-the-moment Grace Elizabeth as well as male models Jules Horn and Jaad Belgaid. Despite Sam being the main focus of the image, someone else succeeded in stealing the shot.

Who, you ask? Our forum members made it clear immediately. “Damn, this could have been an amazing close-up cover of Grace Elizabeth! Sam Smith looks okay, but those two models look like 18+ actors. What’s with the model aesthetics nowadays… Where has the gentleman look gone?” asked Srdjan upon seeing the cover.

“Grace looks gorgeous as always and I wish she had gotten the cover to herself (gigantic hat included!). Its a shame she’s been shoved to the back,” said 333101.

“Should’ve been just Grace,” stated Cute.

In agreement was forum member GivenchyHomme, writing, “I like the V logo. They haven’t played around with it in a very long time. It’s Sam’s cover but Grace stole the spotlight!”

“V Magazine must really like Grace, she was featured in 3 issues last year. She deserves her own cover!” pointed out gunsnroses.

“Well, I think Grace Elizabeth looks breathtaking and I’d very much have preferred her to get this without the random guys, George Michael wannabe included,” mentioned Benn98.

Apple shared the same opinion on Grace. “Grace looks splendid and elegant. Love the red lipstick and thick eyeliner,” she complimented.

“I forgot V still exists. But this cover proves to me why I forgot about them,” slammed TaylorBinque.
