In my imagination — chiefly informed by Internet street style photography — Russia’s crop of fashion editors and gallivanting socialites tend to wear their furs, sex appeal and label loyalty unironically. Not here: For the publication’s October 2013 cover, L’Officiel Russia took a more playful approach.
Photographed by Federico De Angelis, model Coco Rocha is styled in a traditional paisley coat (non-turquoise versions of the pattern are ubiquitous in the region, appearing on everything from rugs to shawls) trimmed with blood-orange fur. Her uneven bangs are cut too short and she wears dangly, oversized silver earrings. It’s a look that knowingly embraces a specifically Russian kind of bad taste.
