Karim Sadli’s photography has become synonymous with Chanel. As creative director of the fabled French fashion house, Virginie Viard has enlisted the Paris-based photographer to capture various Chanel campaign imagery. Sadli was tasked with photographing the Fall 2019 campaign (the late Karl Lagerfeld’s last collection) and has subsequently went on the capture models-of-the-moment for Cruise 2020 and Lily-Rose Depp for Cruise 2021 (to only name a few). After shooting last year’s eyewear campaign offering, the Harper’s Bazaar France regular is back for the 2024 installment, shooting models Loli Bahia, Liu Wen, Alaato Jazyper and América González against a sleek white backdrop for a series of classic and sharp portraits, selling Chanel’s latest 70s and 80s-inspired frames like there’s no tomorrow.

Asian representation doesn’t exactly happen on the regular with the mainstream European fashion titles. Nevertheless, Vogue France much-welcomingly gives up its March 2024 offering to one of the industry’s most prolific of Asian fashion models: Liu Wen. Captured by Julien Martinez Leclerc and styled by Katie Burnett, the Chinese beauty who heralds from the city of Yongzhou wears a Fendi coat and dress teamed with a pair of Prada shoes in the bold and graphic cover image. Wen stars in both the Fendi and Prada advertising campaigns for the current Spring 2024 season.

Also not exactly jumping for joy over the sight of the cover was philophile: “I really love this photographer, but I am not a fan of this. Not really sure if I like the work of this stylist in general either. The print clashing is just too disturbing to the eyes, no harmony.”

“Oh dear, that’s horrid. So dated and it looks like an amateur crash course in Photoshop,” aracic exclaimed.

Ever since signing on the dotted line with Fendi in 2020, Kim Jones has entrusted both Nick Knight and Craig McDean to capture his vision as the Italian fashion house’s womenswear creative director. McDean has been on speed dial since Fall 2021, with fashion spots for Spring 2022, Fall 2022, Spring 2023 and Fall 2023 subsequently following. Change is in the air, however, for Spring 2024 with Jones calling upon Steven Meisel to lens his latest Fendi campaign installment. Models Liu Wen, Imaan Hammam, Anok Yai, Julia Nobis and Angelina Kendall come together this season, captured within a studio setting to showcase Jones’ collection of classic neutrals. Along with the Spring 2024 collection inspiration, the series of minimalist and chic campaign images, are an ode to the women of the Italian city of Rome.

“I am still baffled this campaign is credited to Meisel. I never would’ve thought this was his work. It’s as if Meisel hates Kim Jones, he’s produced some of his worst work to date for that man,” aracic chimed in.

Willy Vanderperre remains a firm fave of Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons. The Belgian photographer replaced David Sims as Prada’s campaign photographer and made his grand Prada return for the Fall 2023 season, in addition to capturing the brand’s recent Holiday 2023 campaign installment.

Vanderperre evidently remains in the good grace of Prada’s co-creative directors for the Spring 2024 campaign, boasting a mammoth of models – just about all the women who walked the show during MFW. Launched earlier this year back in April, we simply don’t know where you’ve been if you weren’t aware that we now have a Chinese edition of W Magazine to fawn over. You’ve been missing out – big style. Under the tutelage of editor Mix Wei, W Magazine China’s debut outing saw Gong Li and Isabelle Huppert front the celebratory issue while Fei Fei Sun and photographer Zeng Wu proved to be a match made in heaven for the mag’s second installment. Now, three issues in, W China’s fashion issue is here for the Fall 2023 season and it’s nothing short of spectacular. Models Liu Wen and Naomi Campbell are welcomed as cover stars for the occasion, both working the lens of photographer Leslie Zhang, complete with stylist Austin Feng dressing the girls in looks from Prada’s Fall 2023 collection across a total of four collectable covers.

Members of our forums were left in awe. “They killed it! Liu Wen is stunning wowww,” Bertrando3 exclaimed.
“Liu Wen is having a moment and she is giving everything. She looks amazing and it’s good to see someone committed,” applauded Lola701.
“Never tired of saying this: Liu Wen is a star! She looks amazing and delivers it all. I could’ve done without Naomi…” chimed in forum member thiago.
“Naomi looks like an amateur here,” oaklee91 added.
“FABBBBBB! Both Liu and Naomi killed it, the vets showing the new girls how it’s done! Fashion magazines in Asia are on a whole other level, western publications need to step it up,” voiced fenty.
Vogue28 ultimately agreed, commenting: “You just have to hand it to the brilliant editors at these Chinese fashion titles, who seem to be the only editors left with an ounce of creativity and determination to keep fashion and fashion photography alive. Never usually pay attention to W China but I am 100% here for this!”

Unlike the vast majority of fashion brands, Alexander McQueen prefers to switch things up when it comes to commissioning photographers to shoot their advertising campaigns. Since Spring 2020, we’ve encountered the works of Jamie Hawkesworth, Paolo Roversi, Steven Meisel, Jonas Akerlund and now David Sims for Fall 2023. Aside from Naomi Campbell, the casting gets a refresh this season too, as Elle Fanning, Liu Wen, Karolina Spakowski, Eva Green, Yseult, Momo Ndiaye and Eliott De Smedt Day star in the campaign. The assortment of models and actresses handpicked by the brand’s (soon-to-depart) creative director Sarah Burton, each pose solo throughout the series of studio-shot campaign images.

Ultimately, the end result failed to impress members of theFashionSpot forums. “It looks like something fan-made. Amateur on stratospheric levels!” exclaimed DK92.
“What a waste of Eva Green,” shrieked Golden Petals.
“Eva Green and Alexander McQueen should have been spectacular,” cried out Ema98.
Also not buying it was vogue28, adding: “Eva Green on her own or Naomi Campbell on her own would have made more sense, as opposed to this random casting lineup. All of this just feels like a total non-event of a campaign, despite having all the components for a strong offering. A massive disappointment, and a massively missed opportunity.”
“I don’t think Elle Fanning is an Alexander McQueen woman, no matter how much she may frown and try to look edgy. Also, has Naomi forgotten how to model?” asked woemwoem.

Mert Alas (of the photographic duo Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott) recently went solo to photograph Dua Lipa for Vogue France and is now out on his lonesome once again to capture not one but six spectacular covers for W Magazine’s mega Fall Fashion Issue for 2023. Editor Sara Moonves welcomes Kaia Gerber, Anok Yai, Gigi Hadid, Mona Tougaard, Liu Wen and Kendall Jenner as cover girls for the occasion, who each front their respective fierce and fabulous covers, donning looks from brands such as Celine, Fendi, Burberry, Christian Dior and Louis Vuitton.

As always with a multi-selection of covers, members of our forums were quick to select their fave. “I like them all, but my favorite is actually Gigi’s,” immediately voiced kokobombon.
“Really into the art direction! The Gigi cover is my fave. Marie-Amelie Sauvé really made the Burberry look interesting and desirable,” GivenchyAddict admired.
“I love these. These instantly took me back to Vogue Paris’ special collections editorials. The mix of outdoor shots then you’ll have studio portraits. Can’t believe W Magazine takes the cake,” MON chimed in.
Also very much a fan was Ihhbl, commenting: “I like Anok’s, it’s so different from the others. Gigi also looks great!”
“Terrific to see W Magazine back on full form, and feels like Christmas has came early with the massive ‘fashion!’ splashed across the cover, in addition to the rather terrific selection of covers. The art direction immediately transported me back to 2008 (in the very best way). Out of all the six covers, Gigi’s is my most fave,” vogue28 raved.

Ever since the tech-inspired Spring 2020 campaign which saw Jennifer Lopez outshine Kendall Jenner, photographers Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott have remained firm faves of Donatella Versace when it comes to lensing Versace’s mainline fashion advertising campaigns.
Following a solo Emily Ratajkowski as the face and embodiment of the ultimate Versace woman last season, multi-girl casting is back (with a vengeance) for Fall 2023 as Donatella welcomes a whole host of faces for the luxury Italian fashion house’s latest campaign proposal. Models Angelina Kendall, Diane Chiu, Gigi Hadid, Irina Shayk, Karolina Spakowski, Sava Suvacarov, Liu Wen and Anok Yai join forces for the occasion, coming together in M&M’s photographic studio to roam a stark white set while showcasing Donatella’s impeccably tailored and structured collection which simply come alive throughout the series of crisp and monochromatic black and white campaign images.

Ultimately, Versace’s latest was not exactly well received by our unfiltered forum members. “Already a NO for me. Where is creativity these days?” asked DK92.
“Atrocious. These clothes look so undesirable,” noted Nimsay.
“My immediate thought upon seeing this was ‘boring AF’ and I’m standing by it… because this just ain’t it. Not even a Richard Avedon reference is enough for me this time around – it’s all just so dull, flat, lifeless and rather depressing,” an unforgiving vogue28 commented.
Also far from enthralled was avonlea002, questioning: “Is it that hard to compose a photograph these days? It just always feels like they let the models walk around and randomly take photos. M&M just got so lazy. Most of the established creatives got lazy. This industry needs a shake up because the state it’s in right now is pathetic.”
