The 2024 77th Annual Cannes Film Festival is currently in full swing. The glorious Côte d’Azur resort town of Cannes continues to celebrate and shine a spotlight upon all-things cinema – right up until May 25. Over recent days, the red carpet laid out on famous steps of the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès has hosted a whole plethora of famous faces. Giving us a masterclass in red carpet dressing, the majority of the A-list attendees have arrived draped in head-to-toe couture from the world’s most prestigious fashion houses. It’s considered the most glamorous red carpet event in the world for good reason, right?

From Anya Taylor-Joy shutting it down for the Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga premiere in a custom Christian Dior Haute Couture tulle gown with a full princess skirt and Naomi Campbell delving deep into the archives to unearth a black sequined Chanel creation (first worn by the supermodel during Chanel’s Spring 1996 Haute Couture presentation almost 30 years ago) to fashion darling Hunter Schafer shimmering in liquid blue satin Giorgio Armani Privé and Alexa Chung working one of Simone Rocha’s creations for Jean Paul Gaultier – here’s theFashionSpot’s standout style moments from the 2024 Cannes Film Festival (so far):

Emanuele Farneti continues to make big strides as the editor of D la Repubblica. Issue after issue, we here at theFashionSpot, are often left in a constant state of awe over both the magazine’s front covers and contents. Make no mistake, Volume #1 of D‘s fashion issue installment for 2024 is no different. Farneti went all-out for the occasion, enlisting a handful of top models from DNA Models as cover stars. A whopping 21 covers feature models Rianne van Rompaey, Saskia de Brauw, Malgosia Bela, Adwoa Aboah, Natalia Vodianova, Karen Elson, Raquel Zimmermann, Linda Evangelista, Julia Nobis, Doutzen Kroes, Carolyn Murphy, Guinevere van Seenus, Imaan Hammam, Emily Ratajkowski, Devyn Garcia, Kiki Willems, Lily Kebede, Deva Cassel, Anja Rubik, Edie Campbell and Mica Argañaraz. The girls pose within Robin Galiegue’s photographic studio, with Jacob K reporting for styling duties and the results are nothing short of spectacular.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“This is how you do multi-covers. Drive me crazy with indecisiveness over which cover to buy! They look good together and none of them are bad,” raved aracic.

“Wow, there’s not a single bad cover! Loving them all. Malgosia’s is my favorite, though. Stellar casting,” applauded forum member thiago.

Fiercification commented: “Robin Galiegue is the don! Finally a new photographer who understands fashion. All the covers are wonderful but I’d have to go with Malgosia, Adwoa or Karen I reckon.”

“Amazing covers. The styling is super sharp and elegant,” admired Alquimista.

“Completely blown away, just like everyone else, over how fantastic each and every cover is! So much beauty, so much splendor and so much fabulosity. Almost an impossible task to pick just one favorite and I wouldn’t even know where to start,” enthused vogue28.

IMAGE | INSTAGRAM/JBATALBOURDET

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: M Le Magazine du Monde is the gift that keeps on giving. Over recent months, outshining its competition, the supplement to France’s Le Monde newspaper has served up a whole plethora of applause-enduing covers starring high-fashion beauties such as Rianne van Rompaey, Awar Odhiang and Selena Forrest. Fashion models always remain high on the agenda when it comes to the magazine’s front covers, with Marie-Pierre Lannelongue bestowing upon us 6 models-of-the-moment for the publication’s latest dated November 25, 2023.

Lannelongue commissions photographer Oliver Hadlee Pearch for the occasion, as well as stylist Charlotte Collet who profile models Emily Ratajkowski, Angelina Kendall, Anja Rubik, Sora Choi, Saskia de Brauw and Nyajuok Gatdet. Across an array of celebratory covers, looks from fashion brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Saint Laurent, Alaïa, Hermès, Celine and Chanel make an appearance.

The moment the covers and accompanying fashion story dropped, members of our forums were left in complete and utter awe. “F*cking fabulous!” heralded helmutnotdead.

“The latest story is fabulous indeed!” echoed thiago, sharing the same enthusiasm.

“Looove this! Sora and Angelina look AMAZING,” forum members Ihhbl raved.

Vogue28 declared: “Angelina Kendall’s cover is EVERYTHING I’ve been missing with the December covers, thus far! An overload of red, glamour, drama and joy – it’s divine. Also here for Anja Rubik’s cover and I’m rather fond of Emily Ratajkowski’s second cover. 10/10 from me!”

2022 Cannes International Film Festival

After skipping 2020 and scaling back for 2021 due to the pandemic, the 2022 Cannes International Film Festival is back in full force. Which is great for us since it usually produces fashion moments on par with the Met Gala and the Oscars. Although we have to admit, a decent amount of looks were relatively lackluster.

When it comes to designers, certain ones reigned supreme. We witnessed several dresses from Valentino’s Fall 2022 offering, aka the pink collection, take to the red carpet. Sharon Stone stuck with Dolce & Gabbana probably because she stars in the Italian fashion house’s new handbag campaign. As usual, there were plenty of haute couture looks to go around. Fendi, Armani Privé, Elie Saab, Christian Dior and Chanel are just a small sampling. Custom creations were also trending with Cara Delevingne’s revealing Balmain gown one of the standouts.

The jewelry was also something to behold. Especially when it came to necklaces. Julianne Moore’s Bottega Veneta dress was amplified by Bulgari’s Eden The Garden of Wonders necklace, for example.

On the beauty front, hair really turned heads. Bella Hadid’s wet-look hairdo with sculpted strands in the middle of her forehead really made a statement. As did Grace Elizabeth’s piecey pixie.

Keep reading to see all the must-see looks from the premieres at the 2022 Cannes International Film Festival.

If you’re like us, you’ve no doubt been fawning over every last detail of the Versace x Fendi collaboration, which Donatella Versace and Kim Jones unveiled during Milan Fashion Week back in September. The wait for the highly-anticipated advertising campaign to accompany the marvelous Fendace collection is finally over and true to speculation, Steven Meisel was commissioned to capture this iconic collab. The Pre-Fall 2022 ads feature an impressive lineup of models: Anok Yai, Adut Akech, Naomi Campbell, Imaan Hammam, Amar Akway, Lina Zhang, Anja Rubik and Kristen McMenamy.

The end result failed to excite most of our forum members, however. “Looks like H&M or something. Steven waste-of-money Meisel,” said MagFan. “Versace for H&M part two,” echoed DK92. “They look overly Photoshopped and kind of CGI. This is not good,” critiqued Scotty.

“Wow, this looks horrible! Feels like Skims by Meisel. Same level of cheapness. Absolutely tragic,” proclaimed thiago:). “It just looks like a glorified backstage shoot…it’s even more depressing that this is what we’ve come to in terms of visual art,” stated GERGIN. “Hideous, the clothes seriously look like 10-dollar knockoffs you would find on a street corner in Los Angeles. The photography looks perfect for the windows of a tacky hair salon nearby,” voiced YohjiAddict. “What a letdown…” added guimon. But not everyone agreed. “This may not be the most brilliant or visually stunning campaign Meisel’s ever done, but I absolutely love it and I’ll always show support for Meisel! Great casting…” approved aracic.

Elle France February 24, 2022 : Anja Rubik by Chris Colls

To say we’ve been obsessed with ELLE France recently is a major understatement. Can you blame us? Covers featuring Vanessa Paradis, Virginie Efira, Angèle, Catherine Deneuve, Penélope Cruz, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Simon Porte Jacquemus, Laetitia Casta and Iza Ijzerman have ALL been spectacular. Now French ELLE enthralls us once again. Anja Rubik transports us to Kenya via the lens of photographer Chris Colls for the occasion. The Polish beauty wears a floral bodysuit from Saint Laurent’s Spring 2022 collection picked by stylist Geraldine Saglio.

“Love it!” echoed an equally impressed mikel.

“Anja always delivers,” applauded Nomar.

“Very much loving the sight of this also and have been obsessing over the vast majority of ELLE France’s covers lately. Anja Rubik, Chris Colls, Geraldine Saglio and Saint Laurent, it’s like a reincarnation of Vogue Paris under Emmanuelle Alt and I’m here for it!” raved vogue28.

VogueGirl8910 expressed the exact same sentiment: “The cover story reminds me of Vogue Paris with Emmanuelle Alt at the helm…”

“Oh, lovely! Anja looks spectacular here,” enthused oaklee91.

“It is very suitable for the gradually warm atmosphere of spring,” admired Silkspring.

“Great photos inside, too. This is the freshest Anja has looked in a long time,” voiced MyNameIs.

We’re the first to admit that the fashion at the 2021 Cannes International Film Festival was a little lacking. Perhaps that’s because it was missing some of its most stylish regulars. But there were still several dramatic moments and gowns.

Bella Hadid managed to wow twice. First in a vintage and slightly altered Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture creation. The model really turned heads, however, in a recently debuted Schiaparelli Fall 2021 Haute Couture stunner. Jessica Chastain also gave us two winning looks. As did Sharon Stone and Gemma Chan.

The award for most daring red carpet look? Why that goes to Tilda Swinton, of course. The actress and living fashion legend hit the premiere of The French Dispatch in a colorful Haider Ackermann ensemble. (Confession: We’re more excited about Tilda and Haider’s reunion than Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck getting back together.)

Vogue Poland December 2020 : Anja Rubik by HerselPoland hasn’t exactly been on our must-read list this year. But the Polish fashion bible is making sure it closes out 2020 with a bang. We love when publications support homegrown talent so we’re thrilled to see Polish beauty Anja Rubik land a trio of December 2020 covers. Making a bold and powerful statement, Anja photographed herself for the covers fighting for women’s rights and protesting the recent abortion ban in her native country.

Incredible!” applauded Valentine27. “Beautiful and powerful at the same time. This is how activism and fashion intertwine,” THD96 chimed in.

Serend1pity was also an admirer: “Very powerful — the smaller, new European editions are giving American Vogue and British Vogue lessons on how to make a cover.” “She has been outspoken about social issues and promoting sexual education for a long time now so she absolutely deserves this cover!” approved annikad. “I love it! A strong cover and a powerful message. That’s how you make a statement!” echoed jorgepalomo. Forum member aracic shared the same level of enthusiasm. “This is what a strong message conveyed through fashion covers done right looks like. Spectacular! All three covers are magnificent…” “All three are stunning! Hauntingly beautiful!” cheered MON.

Italia’s sympathetic blank cover in response to the global pandemic is no doubt still fresh in your memory. But the Italian fashion bible is already looking forward to a brighter future with the unveiling of its May 2020 edition. Emanuele Farneti bestows upon us not one but four covers this month all in collaboration with L’Uomo in an attempt to break gender barriers. Cover one features Kaia Gerber by Karim Sadli, Freja Beha Erichsen fronts the second cover by Alasdair McLellan, Ryan McGinley captured a pregnant Grimes for the third cover while Anja Rubik and Harley Weir pair up for the fourth installment.

The covers took our forums by surprise. “They’ve finally done it! I’m completely shocked that they finally managed to publish a stunning cover. Kaia looks absolutely fantastic and I love the masthead color, it all works well together,” praised aracic.

“Wow! Simply stunning! I don’t care about the text placement, but this reflects what Vogue Italia used to be,” jorgepalomo chimed in.

“This is the first time where I see Kaia as a legit cover model. This is gorgeous,” raved Bertrando3.
