Right here on theFashionSpot, we’ve been praising the efforts of Vogue Brazil’s Paula Merlo to no end. After all, the magazine’s editor has made a solid attempt in supporting homegrown talents. Valentina Samoaio, Barbara Valente and Maria Klaumann have each graced covers over recent months. Merlo, however, is attempting to switch things up with unveiling of the 49th anniversary issue – welcoming an American model as cover girl. Give it up for Paloma Elsesser who graces a duo of delightful covers for May 2024, lensed by photographer Zee Nunes. Dressed by stylist Rita Lazzarotti, Elsesser (who already has covers of American Vogue, Vogue Mexico and M Le Magazine du Monde to name a few) is all smiles in the joyous first cover (below) wearing a Patricia Von Musulin jacket and a stack of Renata Buzzo bracelets. In the second alternative (after the jump), Paloma is decked out in a head-to-toe look from Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring 2024 collection.

“Vogue Brazil started the year very well, only to have a horrible cover for the anniversary edition,” cried out an underwhelmed caioherrero.

“Terrible covers from a terrible model,” Alquimista chimed in.

“Both of the photographs are not cover material. I think that Paloma looks quite good on the second cover but the tinfoil bed is just a terrible prop. Very weak covers for an anniversary issue,” added MModa.

In complete agreement was Alejandra Isami, echoing: “Kinda disappointing for their anniversary cover!”

Yet not everyone was left so disappointed. “The first cover is really beautiful. I love Paloma Elsesser’s expression, the styling and energy,” Wolkfolk reasoned.

“I’m able to appreciate the sense of joy the first cover radiates. I also love the head-to-toe Dolce & Gabbana on the second cover. However, for an anniversary issue, these are seriously lacking,” vogue28 critiqued.

Make no mistake that M Le Magazine du Monde is one our must-read list. The title has rapidly become one of the very few magazines we look forward to and anticipate the release of. You simply cannot blame us either, given the fact the publication outshines the mainstream fashion titles with an effortless ease. Covers of the supplement to France’s Le Monde newspaper have resulted in everyone from Amber Valletta and Bibi Breslin to Mona Tougaard and Emily Ratajkowski becoming cover girls. Now, Paloma Elsesser and Celina Ralph can be added to the list, with the unveiling of M Le Magazine du Monde‘s issue dedicated to all-things beauty.

Last night, stars from the world of fashion, film, music and entertainment were out in full force to celebrate the opening of The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibit.

Naturally, the most buzz-worthy spectacle on the fashion calendar generated a vast amount of show-stopping fashion moments for us to sit back and fawn over. The “The Garden of Time” dress code, inspired by a short story from 1962 of the same title by J.G. Ballard could have perhaps been interpreted in a variety of different ways. As expected, however, a whole multitude of archival magic was unearthed and florals for spring actually proved to be somewhat… groundbreaking.

Kim Kardashian requested Maison Margiela’s John Galliano create a haute couture look composed of a pale grey cashmere cardigan, a corset rewoven from antique silver brocade and a skirt in tooled silver metal evoking lace and florals. A staggering 98,000 crystals later and Anok Yai hit the famed steps of the 2024 Met Gala in a custom Swarovski creation while South African singer required a little help up the stairs, essentially donning a Balmain sand sculpture. Zendaya opted for not one but two breathtaking looks. This year’s Met Gala co-host first descended upon the event showcasing a striking ocean-blue gown by John Galliano for Maison Margiela that included a dramatic matching headpiece. The undisputed style icon later ventured up the steps again in a black archival look from Givenchy’s Spring 1996 haute couture collection (designed by the late Alexander McQueen). Inspired by a Richard Avedon photograph, Nicole Kidman asked Balenciaga’s Denma to breath new life into an original monochromatic Cristóbal Balenciaga creation from 1951 while Demi Moore hit all the right notes in a Harris Reed confection.

Victoria’s Secret may be onto something when enlisting Mikael Jansson to photograph their campaign imagery. The partnership began in 2023 when the Swedish fashion photographer was called upon as the original VS Angels (including Gisele Bündchen, Naomi Campbell, Adriana Lima and Candice Swanepoel) reunited for the Victoria’s Secret Icon campaign. Jansson was rehired to lens the imagery for the American lingerie retailer’s “Body by Victoria” collection and is back once again, this time for the Summer 2024 season. Stylist Emmanuelle Alt joins the team, as we’re whisked off to a tropical destination for a series of sun-soaked images. Gigi Hadid, Paloma Elsesser, Emily Ratajkowski and Tina Kunakey hit the beach and roam the surrounding areas throughout the campaign, ultimately making us want to book a summer getaway stat.

“Victoria’s Secret isn’t even trying, That ‘show’ last year sealed their fate. Hopefully the sales are goodbecause their marketing is all over the place,” critiqued Urban Stylin.

Since June 2023, upon the news of Enninful departing the British fashion bible after a rather remarkable 7-year stint, names like Beyoncé were thrown around with regards to his final cover star. Needless to say, we didn’t see this one coming…

Forgoing just the one cover star, Enninful called upon a whopping 40 of his chosenVogue icons for his concluding cover. As a result, Karen Elson, Irina Shayk, Laverne Cox, Anya Taylor-Joy, Serena Williams, Rina Sawayama, Karlie Kloss, Jourdan Dunn, Cindy Crawford, Amber Valletta, Precious Lee, Jodie Comer, Gemma Chan, Adut Akech, Vittoria Ceretti, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Cata Delevingne, Jane Fonda, Gigi Hadid, Linda Evangelista, Adwoa Aboah, Miley Cyrus, Paloma Elsesser, Iman, Victoria Beckham, Ariana DeBose, Jameela Jamil, Oprah, Selma Hayek, Christy Turlington, Salma Blair, Maya Jama, Kate Moss, Cynthia Erivo, Simone Ashley, Lila Moss, Anok Yai, Kaia Gerber, Naomi Campbell and Dua Lipa grace the cover. Since becoming creative director of Balenciaga in 2015, Denma has commissioned a whole multitude of photographers to capture his vision for the famed fashion house. The Georgian designer’s selections for the brand’s advertising campaigns have included everyone from Mark Borthwick and Charlie White to Nadia Lee Cohen and Tyler Mitchell. Joining the ranks with the unveiling of Balenciaga’s latest campaign installment is Dutch photographic duo Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin. The creative twosome capture a handful of personalities inside closet spaces, including Kim Kardashian (shot inside her own closet), Nicola Peltz Beckham, Paloma Elsesser, Patricia Field, Devon Lee Carlson and Roh Yoon-seo. The series of images helps herald the return of Balenciaga’s iconic Le City handbag.

Make no mistake that Karla Martinez de Salas has ramped it up throughout 2023, sat perched at the top job of both Vogue Mexico and Vogue Latin America. Covers over the past twelve month have included a bevy of A-list talent including everyone from Irina Shayk to Jennifer Lopez and Cardi B to Anna Ewers. To round out 2023, model Paloma Elsesser is welcomed onto both the covers of Vogue Mexico and Vogue Latin America for December, which are an ode to family. The team (including photographer Camila Falquez and stylist Devin Hershey) traveled to the small town of La Jordana in Mexico for the occasion, visiting the family home of hairstylist Evanie Frausto. Across the duo of covers, Paloma is dressed by Falquez in looks from Fendi Haute Couture (below) and Marc Jacobs (after the jump).

Vogue Mexico and Vogue Latin America’s latest took members of theFashionSpot forums by surprise. “Not a fan of hers but this really worked!” confessed Ihhbl.

“I actually like it,” MON echoed in complete agreement.

Crmsn felt the same way, commenting: “She usually doesn’t translate well in editorials, but these are good covers.”

“Love the first cover in the sheer black dress. I think Paloma looks Divine,” raved MModa.

“The best Paloma Elsesser has ever looked. The first one is a good cover – now she looks like a model,” applauded ivano.

However, not all of our forum members were in the same frame of mind. “Must be the only one who thinks the hairstyle on Paloma looks dreadful, and I am sick to absolute death of these fashion shoots with sheets used as backdrops,” complained vogue28.

Over recent years, the iconic American lingerie retailer has undergone an image overhaul, announcing partnerships with a whole host of diverse and inclusive figures including Megan Rapinoe, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Naomi Osaka to name a few. In 2022, the brand also had Sofía Jirau make history as the first model with Down syndrome to appear in a Victoria’s Secret campaign. The brand also counts openly transgender model Valentina Sampaio as an ambassador. These women form the VS Collective, as the brand distances themselves from the VS Angels era.

Now, for 2023, the brand welcomes back the OG Angels for a new advertising campaign aptly titled ‘The Icon Collection’ which attempts to empower all women.

Give it up for Gisele Bündchen, Naomi Campbell, Adriana Lima and Candice Swanepoel who return to front the brand following a long hiatus. Models Adut Akech, Hailey Bieber, Paloma Elsesser, Jill Kortleve, Sui He and Emily Ratajkowski also make an appearance as part of the new guard of VS beauties and feature throughout the campaign offering, which was captured by photographer Mikael Jansson and styled by Camilla Nickerson.

Mostly shot black and white, with an effortless and paired-back approach, the women showcase Victoria’s Secret’s new collection of bras, panties, slips and robes featuring the brand’s classic logo design, starting at $18.50 for panties, $54.95 for bras and $34.95 for lingerie, with sizes ranging from 32A-44DDD and XS-XXL.

After skipping 2020 and scaling back a bit in 2021, we expected the 2022 Met Gala to really bring the drama. Not to mention the fashion. Thankfully, we aren’t disappointed.

Continuing the theme of “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” there was plenty of gilded glamour. There were corsets, structured skirts and opera gloves galore. But there were several stars who either downright ignored the theme or tried to put a modern spin on it. For example, Janelle Monáe’s Ralph Lauren look was a futuristic interpretation.

We spotted a surprising amount of cut-out accents. We were also taken aback by the sheer volume of see-through sections. (See what we did there?) Kim Kardashian certainly turned heads decked out in Marilyn Monroe’s iconic Jean Louis dress.

Both Blake Lively and Sydney Sweeney did an outfit reveal on the red carpet. The former rocked two Atelier Versace creations that paid tribute to the Statue of Liberty. The latter transformed her Tory Burch gown into a minidress.

Suits were also popular. Cara Delevingne, Irina Shayk and Chloë Grace Moretz all stepped out in striking style. It was actually a welcome contrast to all the dynamic dresses.
