Over recent seasons, everyone from Tyler Mitchell and Tyrone Levon to Juergen Teller and Harley Weir have been commissioned to lens campaign imagery for the designer’s eponymous brand. Added to the list with the unveiling of Jacobs’ latest is Carin Backoff. Shining a spotlight upon ‘The Sack Bag’ for Summer 2024, Jacobs endorses a whole plethora of personalities as the face and embodiment of the handbag that launched earlier this year. Sabrina Carpenter, Vittoria Ceretti, Irina Shayk, Anok Yai, Charli XCX and Gabriette make appearances throughout the vibrant and splashy campaign, each styled by Alastair McKimm and captured against a gray backdrop within Backoff’s photographic studio.

The Fall 2024 season of New York Fashion Week is officially upon us (running February 9-14). Here on theFashionSpot, the excitement and suspense has peeked for what we’re about to witness during NYFW and not only in New York but in London, Milan and Paris during the splendor that is Fashion Month.

In the past 10 years, the landscape of fashion has changed dramatically. During NYFW’s Fall 2014 season, Marc Jacobs was on the official schedule (for both his Marc Jacobs and Marc by Marc Jacobs labels). The mega American fashion brand that is Calvin Klein (designed then by Francisco Costa) was still on the schedule too, in addition to Alexander Wang. Carolina Herrera was at the helm of her own namesake fashion empire, and presented a collection true to her heritage (and very much in the style of Cristóbal Balenciaga). The late Oscar de la Renta presented his collection of polished and refined classics and after officially becoming a billionaire (thanks to a soaring stock price) Michael Kors served up an array of clothes oozing panache and charm.

New York Fashion Week may not officially commence until February 9, but Marc Jacobs kick-started the stateside fashion festivities a week early to unveil his Spring 2024 collection, as the renowned American designer continues to celebrate the 40th anniversary of his namesake label.

Jacobs presented a collection larger-than-life (and even bigger hair!), as he welcomed the fashion crowd inside New York’s historic Park Avenue Armory. Instead of paying homage to past collections, Jacobs reverted back to his childhood and his love of dolls. Exaggerated silhouettes, and shoes and bags were blown up to epic and extreme proportions. Models paraded Jacobs’ doll-like and wondrous designs walking amongst Robert Therrien’s famous folding table and chair sculptures. Needless to say, such a collection cemented the fact Marc Jacobs is still as imaginative as ever.

To celebrate 40 years in the biz, Jacobs reunites with Teller for his celebratory Spring 2024 and ushers in a handful of his muses from past and present for the occasion. FKA Twigs, Dakota Fanning, Cindy Sherman, Lila Moss, Lil Uzi Vert and Bladee assemble in front of the Marc Jacobs offices in New York, each toting a selection of the American designer’s signature handbags (including the The Sack Bag, The Tote Bag and The Snapshot) – complete with even Jacobs and Teller making appearances themselves.

Make no mistake that Karla Martinez de Salas has ramped it up throughout 2023, sat perched at the top job of both Vogue Mexico and Vogue Latin America. Covers over the past twelve month have included a bevy of A-list talent including everyone from Irina Shayk to Jennifer Lopez and Cardi B to Anna Ewers. To round out 2023, model Paloma Elsesser is welcomed onto both the covers of Vogue Mexico and Vogue Latin America for December, which are an ode to family. The team (including photographer Camila Falquez and stylist Devin Hershey) traveled to the small town of La Jordana in Mexico for the occasion, visiting the family home of hairstylist Evanie Frausto. Across the duo of covers, Paloma is dressed by Falquez in looks from Fendi Haute Couture (below) and Marc Jacobs (after the jump).

Vogue Mexico and Vogue Latin America’s latest took members of theFashionSpot forums by surprise. “Not a fan of hers but this really worked!” confessed Ihhbl.

“I actually like it,” MON echoed in complete agreement.

Crmsn felt the same way, commenting: “She usually doesn’t translate well in editorials, but these are good covers.”

“Love the first cover in the sheer black dress. I think Paloma looks Divine,” raved MModa.

“The best Paloma Elsesser has ever looked. The first one is a good cover – now she looks like a model,” applauded ivano.

However, not all of our forum members were in the same frame of mind. “Must be the only one who thinks the hairstyle on Paloma looks dreadful, and I am sick to absolute death of these fashion shoots with sheets used as backdrops,” complained vogue28.

Jacobs first called upon the American media personality and bonafide fashion icon for his Fall 2023 advertising campaign and a mere two months later, invites Kim back once again as the face of his eponymous brand – complete with photography from Tyler Mitchell and Alastair McKimm on styling duties. This season sees Kim ditch the dark tresses in favor of blonde, roaming a set engulfed in red latex and in one campaign image showcases Marc Jacobs’ signature Canvas Mini Tote Bag with crystal embellishments.

It doesn’t get more Marc Jacobs than a monochrome color palette and sparkles. This mini tote is embellished with all over crystals on canvas that’s intended to fade and relax over time for an authentically broken-in look that Marc himself loves to wear. Go hands-free and style as a crossbody with the adjustable webbing strap included or unclip the strap and carry by the top handles. There’s no wrong answer.

The world of fashion continues to embrace Kim Kardashian, with Marc Jacobs becoming the latest household name to welcome the American media personality and self-made billionaire as the face and embodiment of his namesake label. Not exactly Kim’s first time fronting a mega fashion brand, Jacobs can now rank himself alongside the likes of Dolce & Gabbana, Balenciaga and Balmain who’ve all championed and endorsed the SKIMS founder previously.
No stranger to a camera lens and whether she’s posting a selfie for her staggering 363 million (and counting…) Instagram followers or proving every inch her worth via the covers of American Vogue, Vogue Hong Kong or Vogue Arabia – there is simply no questioning how well Kim can photograph. This time, Kim can be found posing for photographer Tyrone Lebon and styled by Alastair McKimm wearing pieces from Marc Jacobs’ Fall 2023 collection throughout the series of campaign images, in addition to displaying a small off-white leather version of the brand’s signature tote handbag.

The campaign immediately ignited debate amongst our forum members. “Desperate times call for desperate measures. He pulled out his final weapon. If this fails, I fear it’s game over for Marc Jacobs!” declared an unamused GivenchyHomme.
“Oh gosh. Just no,” sighed tjasmine.
“He must be desperate to save his brand,” MaraPiovani echoed.
“All brands need exposure in order to be truly profitable, and this has been the case since the days of Gigi and Kendall, so it’s no shock,” reasoned forum member 9sete.
Yet not everyone was so disapproving of Kim. “I do like Kim Kardashian and don’t mind her becoming the face of yet another major fashion brand but this is definitely the weakest campaign we’ve gotten, and pales in comparison to Dolce & Gabbana by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott. Tyrone Lebon ranks alongside the likes of Collier Schorr and Cass Bird for me – who could all disappear and I would not care less,” vogue28 chimed in.
