Marc Jacobs stays switching it up when it comes to enlisting photographers for his various different advertising campaigns. Over recent seasons, everyone from Tyler Mitchell and Tyrone Levon to Juergen Teller and Harley Weir have been commissioned to lens campaign imagery for the designer’s eponymous brand. Added to the list with the unveiling of Jacobs’ latest is Carin Backoff. Shining a spotlight upon ‘The Sack Bag’ for Summer 2024, Jacobs endorses a whole plethora of personalities as the face and embodiment of the handbag that launched earlier this year. Sabrina Carpenter, Vittoria Ceretti, Irina Shayk, Anok Yai, Charli XCX and Gabriette make appearances throughout the vibrant and splashy campaign, each styled by Alastair McKimm and captured against a gray backdrop within Backoff’s photographic studio.

Last night, stars from the world of fashion, film, music and entertainment were out in full force to celebrate the opening of The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibit.

Naturally, the most buzz-worthy spectacle on the fashion calendar generated a vast amount of show-stopping fashion moments for us to sit back and fawn over. The “The Garden of Time” dress code, inspired by a short story from 1962 of the same title by J.G. Ballard could have perhaps been interpreted in a variety of different ways. As expected, however, a whole multitude of archival magic was unearthed and florals for spring actually proved to be somewhat… groundbreaking.

Kim Kardashian requested Maison Margiela’s John Galliano create a haute couture look composed of a pale grey cashmere cardigan, a corset rewoven from antique silver brocade and a skirt in tooled silver metal evoking lace and florals. A staggering 98,000 crystals later and Anok Yai hit the famed steps of the 2024 Met Gala in a custom Swarovski creation while South African singer required a little help up the stairs, essentially donning a Balmain sand sculpture. Zendaya opted for not one but two breathtaking looks. This year’s Met Gala co-host first descended upon the event showcasing a striking ocean-blue gown by John Galliano for Maison Margiela that included a dramatic matching headpiece. The undisputed style icon later ventured up the steps again in a black archival look from Givenchy’s Spring 1996 haute couture collection (designed by the late Alexander McQueen). Inspired by a Richard Avedon photograph, Nicole Kidman asked Balenciaga’s Denma to breath new life into an original monochromatic Cristóbal Balenciaga creation from 1951 while Demi Moore hit all the right notes in a Harris Reed confection.

Is Carlos Nazario about to become the saving grace of Harper’s Bazaar? After a slew of unimpressive and deeply underwhelming covers, it’s sure starting to shape up that way, as the magazine’s newly-installed style director starts to implement his magic. Following a Regina King cover last month (declared Bazaar‘s “best cover” in years), the title’s annual issue dedicated to all-things beauty is here. Since taking up the mantle as editor, Samira Nasr has made it a tradition to feature models on the magazine’s May issues – and the year 2024 is no different. Nasr’s selections for May 2024 are Anok Yai and Christy Turlington, who pose for photographer Ethan James Green across a pair of flawless covers, both styled by Nazario. In cover one (below), Anok strikes a pose in a vest and skirt from Christian Dior while Christy is all smiles in a shearling coat and floral lace bodysuit from Saint Laurent (after the jump).

Rafael Pavarotti remains one of the most in-demand of fashion photographers working today. The young Brazilian creative has been embraced by the industry from the get-go, and has since photographed the buzz-worthy covers of American and British Vogue with the 90s supermodels and the covers of Vogue Italia with Gisele Bündchen and Kim Kardashian. Pavarotti has also been called upon by the likes of Balmain and Ferragamo to lens their advertising campaign, in addition to H&M. The partnership between the pair began to blossom back in 2021, with the Swedish fashion retailer also enlisting Pavarotti to lens the Fall 2023 advertising campaign. He’s back for the current Spring 2024 season, shooting a handful of models-of-the-moment who include Vittoria Ceretti, Anok Yai, Bibi Breslin, Precious Lee and Raquel Zimmermann.

Vogue Japan is no different to any other edition of Vogue, in being a shadow of its former self having undergone some major and significant changes over recent years. Tiffany Godoy is the current head of editorial content and under her reign, covers of the Japanese fashion bible are either an extreme hit or a massive flop. This month, Godoy has a huge hit on her hands in the form of Vogue Japan’s “fantastic” April 2024 cover, with Anok Yai becoming cover girl in the process. Via the lens of photographer Heji Shin, the Egyptian-born American beauty who is the current face of Prada and Fendi poses in a look from Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Spring 2024 collection for Christian Dior (selected by stylist Patti Wilson) in the ultra-fabulous cover image which gives us major Y2K vibes.

Since June 2023, upon the news of Enninful departing the British fashion bible after a rather remarkable 7-year stint, names like Beyoncé were thrown around with regards to his final cover star. Needless to say, we didn’t see this one coming…

Forgoing just the one cover star, Enninful called upon a whopping 40 of his chosenVogue icons for his concluding cover. McDean has been on speed dial since Fall 2021, with fashion spots for Spring 2022, Fall 2022, Spring 2023 and Fall 2023 subsequently following. Change is in the air, however, for Spring 2024 with Jones calling upon Steven Meisel to lens his latest Fendi campaign installment. Models Liu Wen, Imaan Hammam, Anok Yai, Julia Nobis and Angelina Kendall come together this season, captured within a studio setting to showcase Jones’ collection of classic neutrals. Along with the Spring 2024 collection inspiration, the series of minimalist and chic campaign images, are an ode to the women of the Italian city of Rome.

Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin have remained Michael Kors’ photographers of choice since Fall 2018, and the relationship is still going strong, for yet another season. After transporting us to a the glitzy resort of Monte Carlo last season, we’re now back stateside for Michael Kors Collection’s Fall 2023 campaign offering and we’re venturing out into the streets of New York City – in the famed Greenwich Village neighborhood, to be exact. Dressed for the occasion in Kors’ 70s-inspired collection by stylist Carlos Nazario, models Vittoria Ceretti and Anok Yai become girls about town in the chic campaign imagery, both embodying the Michael Kors woman perfectly.

Members of our forums, however, were left rather underwhelmed. “When you know MK campaigns for the past 20 years, it’s insane to just have models on the streets of NYC,” critiqued Lola701.
“Looks like they’re on patrol, in the Michael Kors military division, goose-stepping down the street,” forum member tigerrouge laughed.
“Vittoria and Anok have ZERO energy together,” voiced FashionFanatico.
“Both wigs look terrible!” thiago cried out.
Urban Stylin agreed, commenting: “Those wigs are annoying me!”
“We need to talk about Anok’s wig. This is criminal…” echoed GivenchyAddict.
“One of my most favorite of collections during NYFW did not deserve such a horrific advertising campaign! The hair on Anok Yai is atrocious, and Vittoria Ceretti’s mop isn’t much better either. Editor Sara Moonves welcomes Kaia Gerber, Anok Yai, Gigi Hadid, Mona Tougaard, Liu Wen and Kendall Jenner as cover girls for the occasion, who each front their respective fierce and fabulous covers, donning looks from brands such as Celine, Fendi, Burberry, Christian Dior and Louis Vuitton.

As always with a multi-selection of covers, members of our forums were quick to select their fave. “I like them all, but my favorite is actually Gigi’s,” immediately voiced kokobombon.
“Really into the art direction! The Gigi cover is my fave. Marie-Amelie Sauvé really made the Burberry look interesting and desirable,” GivenchyAddict admired.
“I love these. These instantly took me back to Vogue Paris’ special collections editorials. The mix of outdoor shots then you’ll have studio portraits. Can’t believe W Magazine takes the cake,” MON chimed in.
Also very much a fan was Ihhbl, commenting: “I like Anok’s, it’s so different from the others. Gigi also looks great!”
“Terrific to see W Magazine back on full form, and feels like Christmas has came early with the massive ‘fashion!’ splashed across the cover, in addition to the rather terrific selection of covers. The art direction immediately transported me back to 2008 (in the very best way). Out of all the six covers, Gigi’s is my most fave,” vogue28 raved.

Ever since the tech-inspired Spring 2020 campaign which saw Jennifer Lopez outshine Kendall Jenner, photographers Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott have remained firm faves of Donatella Versace when it comes to lensing Versace’s mainline fashion advertising campaigns.
Following a solo Emily Ratajkowski as the face and embodiment of the ultimate Versace woman last season, multi-girl casting is back (with a vengeance) for Fall 2023 as Donatella welcomes a whole host of faces for the luxury Italian fashion house’s latest campaign proposal. Models Angelina Kendall, Diane Chiu, Gigi Hadid, Irina Shayk, Karolina Spakowski, Sava Suvacarov, Liu Wen and Anok Yai join forces for the occasion, coming together in M&M’s photographic studio to roam a stark white set while showcasing Donatella’s impeccably tailored and structured collection which simply come alive throughout the series of crisp and monochromatic black and white campaign images.

Ultimately, Versace’s latest was not exactly well received by our unfiltered forum members. “Already a NO for me. Where is creativity these days?” asked DK92.
“Atrocious. These clothes look so undesirable,” noted Nimsay.
“My immediate thought upon seeing this was ‘boring AF’ and I’m standing by it… because this just ain’t it. Not even a Richard Avedon reference is enough for me this time around – it’s all just so dull, flat, lifeless and rather depressing,” an unforgiving vogue28 commented.
Also far from enthralled was avonlea002, questioning: “Is it that hard to compose a photograph these days? It just always feels like they let the models walk around and randomly take photos. M&M just got so lazy. Most of the established creatives got lazy. This industry needs a shake up because the state it’s in right now is pathetic.”
