The 2024 77th Annual Cannes Film Festival is currently in full swing. The glorious Côte d’Azur resort town of Cannes continues to celebrate and shine a spotlight upon all-things cinema – right up until May 25. Over recent days, the red carpet laid out on famous steps of the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès has hosted a whole plethora of famous faces. Giving us a masterclass in red carpet dressing, the majority of the A-list attendees have arrived draped in head-to-toe couture from the world’s most prestigious fashion houses. It’s considered the most glamorous red carpet event in the world for good reason, right?

From Anya Taylor-Joy shutting it down for the Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga premiere in a custom Christian Dior Haute Couture tulle gown with a full princess skirt and Naomi Campbell delving deep into the archives to unearth a black sequined Chanel creation (first worn by the supermodel during Chanel’s Spring 1996 Haute Couture presentation almost 30 years ago) to fashion darling Hunter Schafer shimmering in liquid blue satin Giorgio Armani Privé and Alexa Chung working one of Simone Rocha’s creations for Jean Paul Gaultier – here’s theFashionSpot’s standout style moments from the 2024 Cannes Film Festival (so far):

Since its debut back in 2021 with the unveiling of Issue #0, Perfect has become a magazine within a league of its own. The biannual publication founded by stylist Katie Grand and now edited by Bryan Yambao (also known as fashion influencer Bryanboy), has favored multi-covers since day one and along with the launch of Issue #5 for the Fall 2023 season, the title has undergone a redesign and boasts a new format.

In order to generate as much hype as possible, a grand total of 29 covers have been produced for us to deliberate over and collect. Cover stars on this occasion include Dominique Fishback, Kesewa Aboah, Vittoria Ceretti, Corbin Shaw, Natasha Poly, Rick Owens, Gwendoline Christie, Leon Dame, Kylie Minogue, Ida Heiner, América González, Davika Hoorne, Adwoa Aboah, Ned Sims, Ikram Abdi, Oluchi Onweagba, Zayn Malik, Alexandra Daddario, Gabrielle Union and Steve Mackey.

As per usual with multi-covers, only a select few are guaranteed to standout from the rest. “The Vittoria Ceretti cover is the only one that would make you stop IRL,” voiced Lola701.
“Love Vittoria’s and Kylie,” echoed Xone.
“Only the covers with Vittoria and Kylie are the best, the others are kinda dull,” VogueGirl8910 chimed in.
In complete agreement was vogue28: “Never been all too impressed with Perfect but I am very pleasantly surprised by some of these covers. Always so wonderful to see Natasha Poly and that Vittoria Ceretti is rather gorgeous. However, the inclusion of Kylie Minogue is simply the icing on the cake for me here.”
“Vittoria, Natasha and Kylie all look incredible. Some of the other covers are good but blimey did they really needed this many?” quizzed WAVES.

2022 Cannes International Film Festival

After skipping 2020 and scaling back for 2021 due to the pandemic, the 2022 Cannes International Film Festival is back in full force. Which is great for us since it usually produces fashion moments on par with the Met Gala and the Oscars. Although we have to admit, a decent amount of looks were relatively lackluster.

When it comes to designers, certain ones reigned supreme. We witnessed several dresses from Valentino’s Fall 2022 offering, aka the pink collection, take to the red carpet. Sharon Stone stuck with Dolce & Gabbana probably because she stars in the Italian fashion house’s new handbag campaign. As usual, there were plenty of haute couture looks to go around. Fendi, Armani Privé, Elie Saab, Christian Dior and Chanel are just a small sampling. Custom creations were also trending with Cara Delevingne’s revealing Balmain gown one of the standouts.

The jewelry was also something to behold. Especially when it came to necklaces. Julianne Moore’s Bottega Veneta dress was amplified by Bulgari’s Eden The Garden of Wonders necklace, for example.

On the beauty front, hair really turned heads. Bella Hadid’s wet-look hairdo with sculpted strands in the middle of her forehead really made a statement. As did Grace Elizabeth’s piecey pixie.

The Fashion Awards 2021The Fashion Awards 2021 were held last night in London. Those boldly floral patterned pieces are pretty easy to spot. Everyone from Priyanka Chopra to Billy Porter flaunted the designer’s statement creations. 2021 CFDA Fashion Awards

There were two dominant trends at the 2021 CFDA Fashion Awards. Bright pops of color and all-black looks. It was a pretty interesting contrast, actually.

Emily Blunt hit the red black carpet before her hosting duties decked out in an orange Christopher John Rogers suit. Fashion Icon honoree Zendaya rocked a red Vera Wang set. And Face of the Year Anya Taylor-Joy wowed in a purple Oscar de la Renta creation complemented by leopard gloves and a matching hat.

Actress/model HoYeon Jung attended in a draped Louis Vuitton black dress. Ciara hit the carpet in Tom Ford. While Cara Delevingne sported a tuxedo blazer.

We’re the first to admit that the fashion at the 2021 Cannes International Film Festival was a little lacking. Perhaps that’s because it was missing some of its most stylish regulars. But there were still several dramatic moments and gowns. Bella Hadid managed to wow twice. First in a vintage and slightly altered Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture creation. The model really turned heads, however, in a recently debuted Schiaparelli Fall 2021 Haute Couture stunner. Jessica Chastain also gave us two winning looks. As did Sharon Stone and Gemma Chan. The award for most daring red carpet look? Why that goes to Tilda Swinton, of course. The actress and living fashion legend hit the premiere of The French Dispatch in a colorful Haider Ackermann ensemble. (Confession: We’re more excited about Tilda and Haider’s reunion than Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck getting back together.) Vogue Japan March 2021 : Shanelle, He Cong, Natasha, Edita & Kayako by Luigi & Iango

Japan definitely has a signature aesthetic. Lately the Japanese fashion bible has been shying away from its standard white backdrop. But the mag is clearly still favoring its trademark multi-model format with the unveiling of its March 2021 issue. (The mag’s last crowded cover was way back in August of last year.) Shanelle Nyasiase, Natasha Poly, Kayako Higuchi, He Cong and Edita Vilkeviciute pose on location in the Italian region of Puglia decked out in pieces from Prada’s Spring 2021 collection (picked by Anna Dello Russo) for the cover image snapped by Luigi & Iango.

Vogue Japan’s latest fell flat on our forums. “A disappointment of a cover (despite the presence of Natasha Poly). The casting feels disjointed, the composition of the girls comes across as static and staged and the styling and whole atmosphere give me cult vibes,” voiced vogue28.

“Natasha and Edita don’t belong on this cover, they’re on a completely different level in every way and it’s almost disrespectful to group them with these new models. The entire cover gives off an eerie cult vibe,” echoed Benn98.

MON agreed: “A lovely cast, but it’s undeniable that there’s a huge disconnect between them. They showed up for the job and that’s just about it.”

“Would’ve been a lot better if it was another classic studio group shot. This must be my least favorite cover Luigi & Iango ever shot for Vogue Japan…pity. I was excited for Natasha and Edita, but they really don’t belong in this lineup!” aracic chimed in.

“All the elements don’t go well together. It’s quite an eyesore with the background and the patterns of the clothing combined with the text,” said mikel.

“Luigi & Iango’s outdoor photography is worse than Juergen Teller’s. I’ve seen Instagram pictures from non-influencers who put in much more effort than this,” called out Ken Doll Jenner.

Photographic duo Luigi & Iango definitely loves supermodels. Whether the pair is shooting Kate Moss along with Amber Valletta for Mônot or a supermodel extravaganza for Vogue Japan, the outcome is usually outstanding. The duo’s latest project absolutely stays true to form. Luigi & Iango captures Ermanno Scervino’s 20th anniversary campaign featuring Natasha Poly, Irina Shayk and Joan Smalls as the faces of the Spring 2021 collection.

“I’m getting Balmain, Alberta Ferretti and Dolce & Gabbana more than Ermanno Scervino,” voiced Summer Day.

“You get a cast like this and you Photoshop them into oblivion…” mathiaskatz pointed out.

“Not necessarily a bad set of images. This would’ve been an amazing Balmain campaign five years ago. Or a stunning Cavalli campaign 10 years ago,” critiqued an undoubtedly disappointed mikel.

But clearly not everyone felt the same way. “I love Irina but I feel like Joan and Natasha are enough. That solo shot of Joan is beautiful,” raved Krystalblue006.

“Natasha and Joan were enough, I love Irina but I think she looks like an extra model,” echoed zacatecas570.
