You’ve no doubt become completely accustom to Kim Kardashian serving both face and body when posing before a camera lens. Whether the American social media sensation turned billionaire businesswoman is fronting the covers of Vogue Arabia, i-D Magazine, GQ or becoming the face of mega fashion brands like Balenciaga and Marc Jacobs – Kim is simply a photographer’s dream.

As co-founder of Skims, Kim has commissioned some of fashion’s finest to photograph the accompanying campaigns (including both Steven Meisel and Steven Klein). Nick Knight was seemingly high on the agenda this year and with the unveiling of the swimwear campaign for 2024, the British fashion photographer captures Kim turning up the heat in the sizzling campaign to spotlight the shapewear and clothing brand’s latest swimwear collection. Complete with styling from Carine Roitfeld, the sultry campaign images immediately struck a cord with members of theFashionSpot forums…

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“Obviously the inspiration was the Raica Oliviera and Gisele Bündchen campaigns for Dior!” pointed out DK92 at once.

Vogue28 noted the same, commenting: “Obviously very reminiscent of Nick Knight’s glorious and fierce early 00s Christian Dior by John Galliano advertising campaigns and I’m 100% here for it. You know the industry is in a devastating and questionable state when we’ve got Skims managing to outshine the mega brands!”

“Oh that’s hot! Nick Knight did great and Kim looks splendid!” heralded GivenchyAddict.

“Great photography, sexy styling, sultry colors, and sleek execution. Kim looks hot and fierce!” MModa chimed in, sharing the same enthusiasm as everyone else.

Ihhbl ultimately agreed, writing: “Amazing color work. I really like this!”

“Kimberly!! You’re doing amazing sweetie,” shared aracic.

Amelia Gray is here to stay, and her star continues to rise within the world of fashion. Most definitely a fan of the American beauty is Matthew M. Williams. Back in early December, Williams announced his sudden departure as Givenchy creative director (a replacement is yet to be named) and the designer’s last mainline collection was presented during the Spring 2024 season of Paris Fashion Week. The accompanying campaign is here, with Amelia Grey making a solo appearance, following an outing alongside male model Kit Butler in Givenchy’s Holiday 2023 campaign. Against a backdrop of white drapery, Amelia is shot by photographer Kacper Kasprzyk for the occasion, complete with Carine Roitfeld on styling duties.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“The images themselves are good. It looks rich, expensive and it showcases the clothes and accessories, whatever you need for an ad campaign,” Lax89 admired.

Kasper noted: “I just like the sleek vibe from Carine’s styling here.”

“I can’t with this girls expressions. The epitome of ‘go girl give us nothing’,” commented GERGIN.

“Another nepo baby one doesn’t need,” remarked Mr Yayo.

Scotty said: “She’s cute on the runway and all but she doesn’t have what it takes to be on print. Does anyone care for Givenchy though nowadays? Even Carine can’t save this mess.”

“I feel this brand lost all the appeal. It’s not relevant anymore and everything seems regular. I miss the provocative vibe mixed with the sexual tension and a little bit of darkness,” shared matheus_s.

“Someone please, save Givenchy!” pleaded forum member Abby Zacky.

CR Fashion Book Issue #24 S/S 2024 : Beyoncé by Louise Thornfeldt
IMAGE | CRFASHIONBOOK.COM

Last Wednesday, CR Fashion Book attempted to set the internet ablaze with the teaser for Issue #24. True to speculation on theFashionspot forums, CR‘s latest cover star is in fact Beyoncé, welcomed back for a second time. Almost one whole decade after her last, the acclaimed American singer-songwriter and businesswoman poses for photographic duo Louise & Maria Thornfeldt. Across four unique and dynamic cover images, Beyoncé tires on a various new looks, as she ports different hairstyles throughout and is dressed by CR‘s Carine Roitfeld in an array of pieces from Maison Margiela, Valentino, Luis De Javier and Calvin Klein.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“TRAGIC! But to be honest, nothing related to fashion that involves her excites me,” voiced DK92 the moment the covers struck.

Vogue28 replied: “Tragic indeed, and to think Carine Roitfeld (to woman who gave us countless stellar fashion stories and covers as EIC of Vogue Paris) is attached to this is making matters even worse. CR Fashion Book lost its spark a long time ago but these are just such a non-event that I am genuinely sat here dumbfounded.”

“I love Beyoncé very much but her magazine portfolio hardly impresses me,” thiago chimed in.

“She never convinces me in anything fashion related,” commented mepps.

Alquimista pointed out: “They’re still trying to sell this woman as a style icon. Beyoncé never had style!”

Kimy Jo described the end result as “horrible” but do you share the same view?

The celebratory issue is dedicated to Roitfeld’s muses, both past and present, with Kim Kardashian revealed as the title’s first cover star for Issue #23 Fall 2023.

The now four-time CR cover girl poses for photographer Nadia Lee Cohen and as you’ve never seen her before, sporting a short buzz-cut hairstyle and razor-thin eyebrows. The American media personality, businesswoman and actress (currently starring in Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story: Delicate) is shot up against a grey studio backdrop, with Roitfeld and Ben Perreira teaming up on styling duties, selecting a distressed tank top from Dsquared2 for Kim to wear across two dynamic covers, who seemingly left the high-glam she’s best known for at the door of the studio.

The Tom Ford brand is adding to their covetable rooster of fragrances with the unveiling and relaunch of their new Café Rose scent for 2023. To coincide with the release of the seductive new floral scent, Tom Ford commissioned his trusted campaign photographer Steven Klein to capture the mood of the fragrance and enlists model Rianne van Rompaey to evoke the spirit. In the arresting campaign image, the Dutch beauty and firm industry favorite is shot lying on a bed of floral petals, rocking a smokey eye and nude lip combo, a head full of curls and wearing a black netted bodysuit with a black star-encrusted black bralet top, which was handpicked for the occasion by stylist Carine Roitfeld.

The campaign ignited fierce debate amongst our forum members. “It’s all just so quintessential Tom Ford and oozing glamour that I cannot help but to be instantly attracted to this. The sight of Rianne van Rompaey is simply the icing on the cake,” raved vogue28.
“Bring on the nostalgia! I love it,” kokobombon approved.
Everyone else, however, was left somewhat… disenchanted. “The result is familiar, but not something I like,” voiced DK92.
“I thought that was a heavily retouched Nicole Kidman for a moment,” pointed out FashionMuseDior.
“She looks possessed. Everything about this is really dated,” disapproved VERNIQUE.
“Wrong model, wrong outfit, wrong set design,” commented FashionFanatico.

For over three decades as Max Mara’s creative director, Ian Griffiths has selected Steven Meisel to lens the majority of the brand’s advertising campaigns. They’ve included everyone from Gigi Hadid to Faretta to Fei Fei Sun to Joan Smalls with last season’s offering celebrating the 70th anniversary of Max Mara. The legendary lensman returns for Spring 2022 with Carine Roitfeld back on styling duties. Loli Bahia, Yilan Hua, Anok Yai and Vittoria Ceretti pose in the studio showcasing the fashion house’s latest collection.

Members of our forums, however, expected more. “I’m missing some movement in the poses,” voiced mikel.

“If ‘go on girl give us nothing’ was a campaign. I get that Max Mara loves their simple no-concept campaigns, but the clothes actually have to look desirable for that to work,” KINGofVERSAILLES chimed in.

“This is terrible. Weak photography aside, there is nothing desirable about this duty-free styling,” critiqued THD96.

“The only campaign images I’m able to tolerate are the ones cropped a little closer (like the one of Vittoria Ceretti wearing the navy outfit). There’s just no life, movement or pizzazz radiating from the full-length images,” explained an underwhelmed vogue28.

“This is really bad coming from Meisel…” confessed zacatecas570.

“Vittoria looks dry and washed out. That hair color is a disaster,” added GivenchyHomme.

“I loved Vittoria’s hair on the runway, but apparently it doesn’t translate to print…not Max Mara’s best,” admitted aracic.

But not everyone shared the same sentiment. “I don’t get the dislike. All I see is a rather stunning Max Mara campaign… Yes it’s basic, but it’s Meisel basic, which I’ve always liked,” approved Benn98.

It has been six years since Léa Seydoux became a brand ambassador for Louis Vuitton (joining Alicia Vikander and Emma Stone). Ever since signing on the dotted line, the French actress has fronted several advertising campaigns captured by just about every major photographer from Patrick Demarchelier to Steven Meisel. Now Léa’s latest assignment for the storied French fashion house is becoming the face of its new Spell On You fragrance. Gazing down the lens of Jean-Baptiste Mondino and styled by Carine Roitfeld, Léa poses with a male companion on silk sheets seemingly channeling Jean Seberg.

Although the end result failed to hypnotize the majority of our forum members. “This is awful! What’s with the awkward haircut?” asked Scotty.

“Looks like a still from a spy movie in one of those locations where they have to disguise themselves,” Urban Stylin chimed in.

“Louis Vuitton fragrance bottles are as tedious as their ambassadors!” proclaimed DK92.

[ Not a tFS forum member yet? Click here to join! ]

THD96 was also less than impressed with the outcome: “This is bad. Léa is too edgy for this type of campaign. Why would you need to do such a cheesy campaign for a perfume line that should feel exclusive?”

“This looks more like a portrayal of what an actress does to get her parts rather than a seductive ad campaign for an expensive fragrance. Not only does it seem very out of step with current themes in media, it’s just so damn boring,” said tigerrouge.

“Louis Vuitton is such a waste of her charisma and charm. I prefer her work for Prada. At least they know how to make celebrities look good. Her Prada Candy ads are iconic! This collaboration, not so much,” GivenchyHomme pointed out.

“And that’s mostly on Steven Meisel,” replied aracic. “I actually don’t hate this. It’s not great, but Léa looks so stunning in most of the images that I can’t not like it.”

Max Mara F/W 2021.22 by Steven Meisel

Max Mara and Steven Meisel’s relationship goes way back to the 90s. So when Ian Griffiths welcomed back the legendary lensman to capture the brand’s campaigns in 2016, you can imagine our delight. Campaigns since his comeback have definitely enthralled us to no end. (Although we had to endure Brigitte Niedermair for Fall 2020 and Spring 2021.) Now he’s back for Fall 2021 to celebrate Max Mara’s 70th anniversary. Amar Akway, Chloe Oh, Jits Bootsma, Malgosia Bela, Mona Tougaard along with Steinberg pose together against a gray backdrop with Carine Roitfeld on styling duties.

Clearly one model really stood out, however. “Malgosia introduces her young apprentices, who will never be able to match the master,” declared tigerrouge.

“Malgosia looks like a babushka doing a family portrait with her fashionably adopted children,” described GERGIN.

“The rest of the girls look so out of place next to Malgosia, poor things…” voiced kokobombon.

[ Not a tFS forum member yet? Click here to join! ]

“Meisel’s Max Mara ads are usually hits right off the bat, but the dynamic here between the models is beyond strange. (I almost feel sorry for Malgosia being lumbered with this concept),” stated an obviously disappointed Fiercification.

GivenchyHomme certainly couldn’t agree more: “Malgosia is dominating every picture she’s in. The other models blend into the background. The products they’re wearing are getting lost. The contrast between an experienced top model and a group of newbies does not work.”

“A weak offering of a campaign, especially considering it’s Max Mara celebrating their 70th anniversary. I do love me a Steven Meisel studio shoot with a gray backdrop, but the casting here is atrocious…” noted vogue28.

For some unknown reason, Alicia Vikander doesn’t flourish when posing before the lens of even the most established photographers. Prime examples are the covers of British ELLE, Vogue Japan, Harper’s Bazaar and countless Louis Vuitton advertising campaigns. Nicolas Ghesquière welcomed the Swedish actress as ambassador back in 2015. Now six years later she becomes the face of the brand’s latest high jewelry collection. Designed by Francesca Amfitheatrof, the collection pays tribute to Louis Vuitton himself in honor of his 200th birthday. In the flawless campaign image lensed by forum favorite Steven Meisel and styled by Carine Roitfeld, Alicia has quite frankly never looked better wearing a magnificent necklace composing of diamonds, emeralds and sapphires.

The outcome garnered mixed feedback on our forums, however. “Infinitely better than other Alicia Vikander ads, but girl, if Meisel can’t breathe life into you…there is no hope,” stated dodencebt.

“She’s terrible in front of a camera, even Meisel can’t save her,” agreed dontbeadrag.

Léa Seydoux would’ve taken this to the next level. Alicia is very pretty, but also very boring,” noted Marc10.

Lola701 felt the same way: “The campaign is great and timeless… But Léa Seydoux would have been more suited for this.”

“Better than the usual train wreck…” admitted marsnoop2.

“This might be her best campaign to date and that isn’t saying much. How is such a beautiful, model-looking actress unable to emote in front of the camera?” asked an underwhelmed Urban Stylin.

“Not sure if it’s just because I’m bias toward Steven Meisel, but I am loving this and it is without a doubt one of Alicia Vikander’s better and more photogenic of times in front of a camera. The portrait itself is undoubtedly flawless with Alicia’s perfect complexion, natural beauty and elegant poise here,” approved vogue28.
