After all, the powers that be at Condé Nast are making full use of their recent fashion story with the iconic Brit model, from the pages of British Vogue‘s May 2024 installment. Said shoot, lensed by Nikolai von Bismarck, has since turned up on the covers of Vogue Germany, Vogue Taiwan and now Vogue Japan. As opposed to her German and Taiwanese counterparts who opted for a photograph of Kate in full-color, Japanese Vogue‘s Tiffany Godoy selected a black and white shot the current face of Fendi, Balenciaga and Anine Bing for June 2024. In the classic and timeless portrait, Moss (who appeared on the magazine’s inaugural issue for September 1999 and was last on the cover in April 2012) is dressed by Kate Phelan in Chanel.

Since 2008, when Alexandra Shulman brilliantly gave up British Vogue‘s front cover to the bonafide fashion icon, editors of Vogue from across the globe have been tripping over themselves to make Mrs. Beckham their cover star and Eugénie Trochu of Vogue France is one of the latest. For November 2023, Victoria makes a return to the cover of the French fashion glossy, just one month shy of a whole decade since she and husband David Beckham guest-edited an entire issue of Vogue Paris during Emmanuelle Alt’s tenure. On this occasion, Victoria poses for photographer Lachlan Bailey and wears a look from Prada’s Fall 2023 collection (chosen by stylist Kate Phelan) and she sits inside a luxury vintage motor.

In the eyes of theFashionSpot’s forum members, Victoria’s 31st Vogue cover left a lot to be desired. “What a terrible cover choice! The angle is awful and the image itself screams pedestrian to me. They could’ve done much better,” noted thiago the moment the cover dropped.
“It’s so boring! Are there really no more people with creative ideas and a sense of style left in the world?” a disapproving Polynpon asked.
“What a snooze. Vogue France is devoid of any semblance of the eroticism, romance and fantasy of Vogue Paris,” called out Ribs666.

Given the fact there is nothing like a supermodel to propel a magazine back into the spotlight, the German fashion bible selects Naomi Campbell for its double July/August 2022 offering. The living legend fronts the publication four years after her last appearance this time captured by photographer Dan Martensen. In the cover portrait, the fashion icon showcases a look from Christian Dior’s Fall 2022 haute couture collection courtesy of Kate Phelan.

Members of our forums aren’t sold, however. “A holographic shower curtain with a badly Photoshopped Naomi Campbell in front of it warrants a collector’s item these days?” asked Melancholybaby.

“What a dull cover and the holographic effect just makes it less collectible. Naomi seems to be in the phase of her career where she’s willing to be photographed by anyone as long as she’s guaranteed a cover,” said mepps.

“Unfortunately, this doesn’t really work,” expressed a disapproving Urban Stylin.

“Dull styling, dull photography. I don’t like the pose or the hair or the dress. A complete miss, sadly!” proclaimed aracic.

“Naomi is an icon, but her work lately doesn’t live up to that moniker. There is none of the energy and vibrancy here as in any of her work during her heyday. That is one seriously dull cover,” dfl-001 pointed out.

The fashion industry’s love affair with Hailey Bieber continues. This year alone we’ve witnessed the American beauty grace the covers of WSJ. Magazine, Perfect plus Allure and become the face of mega brands like Miu Miu and Boss. Now Eugénie Trochu picks Hailey to cover Vogue France only a year after the model’s last appearance. The cover immediately ignited debate among our forum members. “I don’t hate it,” confessed MyNameIs.

“Very vintage in a good way. Perhaps my favorite cover of Vogue France so far, it simply hit the right spots for me! The green, the hints of blue light, the simplicity. Hailey looks good! Good job,” praised aracic.

“There’s a late 90s ELLE vibe that I like, I just wish the lighting around her was better,” admitted Marc10.

“Looks as if they photographed her against a window using an iPhone and then overexposed the background in Photoshop,” avonlea002 pointed out.

“The lighting of her head and left shoulder looks very amateurish, it’s all so washed out,” declared iacoboi.

SLFC agreed: “This is awful, the lighting with the white background makes it look really cheap and amateurish.”

“I’m conflicted. I like the cover because it feels very retro while modern at the same time… Then, on the other hand, I want to be extremely petty and say Emmanuelle Alt did it better with Hailey Bieber exactly twelve months ago!” voiced vogue28.

The portfolio of Paloma Elsesser continues to impress. Magazines across the globe continue to drop covers featuring the American beauty and muse, from i-D to the Arabian, Italian, American, British and Polish editions of Vogue. Now the in-demand model appears on Vogue Spain for April 2022 not even a year after her last appearance. Kate Phelan dresses Paloma in a look from Chanel’s Spring 2022 collection for the colorful cover shot captured by Nadine Ijewere.

The cover divided our forum members, however. “Beautiful!” described mikel the second the cover dropped.

“It’s quite lovely and colorful, nothing too memorable in my opinion, but it’s better than I would anticipate at this state,” confessed aracic.

“The cover is flawless…” added VogueGirl8910.

But not everyone is feeling it. “So lazy, her modeling skills are limited and I’m sorry for telling this, but sadly it’s a reality. Her expression is not strong. I hope Paloma becomes a better model with time. I still don’t find the X factor with her,” noted ivano.

Ken Doll Jenner shared the same sentiment: “Her expression looks flat to me. Maybe a smile would have been more fitting for the vibrant styling.”

“Does nothing for me… This cover, despite the nice coloring and movement of the dress, just feels…flat and a nonevent. At this rate, I can either take or leave Paloma Elsesser,” vogue28 chimed in.

We’ve been waiting for British Vogue‘s April issue for what feels like an eternity. Sienna Miller was just one name thrown around as a possible cover star. The magazine throws us a curveball by dropping two covers. Cover one goes to Anya Taylor-Joy wearing a crown and a Christian Dior Spring 2022 Haute Couture creation (which took a remarkable 200 hours to create) picked by Kate Phelan for the image captured by Craig McDean. For the second offering, the publication resurrects a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II from 1957 by Anthony Armstrong-Jones in celebration of the upcoming Platinum Jubilee.

The moment the two covers dropped, our forums were engulfed in debate. “This is lovely and a very nice surprise!” said justaguy.

“Both covers are gorgeous,” echoed ivano.

“The two covers are beautiful in their own right. Queen Elizabeth’s is just so lovely, celebratory and proper that I cannot help but to admire it, while Anya’s feels like the rebellious alternative. I’m getting Kate Moss vibes from it, love the muted colors and Phelan’s styling,” admired vogue28.

“Very Kate Moss with the crown,” agreed Scotty.

But not everyone was smitten. “Happy for Anya, but that dress is certainly not cover-worthy. I know it’s hard to find a nice dress from any Dior collection, but there has got to be a better-looking one?” wondered GreyVetiver.
