Here on theFashionSpot, we’re always down for being completely enthralled and bewitched by a magazine which doesn’t stimulate our interest on the regular. This month, London-based biannual title Marfa Journal has our undivided attention, as the publication’s editor and founder Alexandra Gordienko welcomes Agyness Deyn back into the fold, fresh from an appearance at Burberry’s Fall 2024 showcase during London Fashion Week. Gordienko, a Central Saint Martin’s graduate who founded Marfa Journal in 2013, commissioned forum favorite Ethan James Green to document the British model, with the Issue 21’s cover shoot complete with styling from Emma Alix Wyman. Deyn strikes a handful of poses within Green’s studio in the dynamic cover shot, prancing about in an all-black look from Nicolas Ghesquière’s Spring 2024 Louis Vuitton collection.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“Oh, Ethan! Giving us what Steven Meisel won’t, I guess. Fabulous,” heralded aracic.

Vogue could never. Absolutely loving this, easily one of the best covers/fashion shoots I’ve come across this whole entire month. Wonderful to see Agyness Deyn and I will always be down for Ethan James Green doing his best Steven Meisel impersonation,” vogue28 enthused.

Also equally as impressed was Scotty: “I love it. The Meisel treatment with actual proper models! We need Snejana Onopka by EJG now!”

“I’m happy to see Agyness Deyn back and it’s no novelty that EJG is following on Meisel’s footsteps in terms of photography,” noted WAVES.

“So happy to see Agyness back,” Bertrando3 heralded.

Not everyone, however, was so forthcoming. “I could never warm up to Agyness when she was happening. Something about her just annoys me and I can’t figure out what it is,” shared Cocteau Stone.

Vogue Brazil May 2024 : Paloma Elsesser by Zee Nunes

Right here on theFashionSpot, we’ve been praising the efforts of Vogue Brazil’s Paula Merlo to no end. After all, the magazine’s editor has made a solid attempt in supporting homegrown talents. Valentina Samoaio, Barbara Valente and Maria Klaumann have each graced covers over recent months. Merlo, however, is attempting to switch things up with unveiling of the 49th anniversary issue – welcoming an American model as cover girl. Give it up for Paloma Elsesser who graces a duo of delightful covers for May 2024, lensed by photographer Zee Nunes. Dressed by stylist Rita Lazzarotti, Elsesser (who already has covers of American Vogue, Vogue Mexico and M Le Magazine du Monde to name a few) is all smiles in the joyous first cover (below) wearing a Patricia Von Musulin jacket and a stack of Renata Buzzo bracelets. In the second alternative (after the jump), Paloma is decked out in a head-to-toe look from Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring 2024 collection.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

Vogue Brazil started the year very well, only to have a horrible cover for the anniversary edition,” cried out an underwhelmed caioherrero.

“Terrible covers from a terrible model,” Alquimista chimed in.

“Both of the photographs are not cover material. I think that Paloma looks quite good on the second cover but the tinfoil bed is just a terrible prop. Very weak covers for an anniversary issue,” added MModa.

In complete agreement was Alejandra Isami, echoing: “Kinda disappointing for their anniversary cover!”

Yet not everyone was left so disappointed. “The first cover is really beautiful. I love Paloma Elsesser’s expression, the styling and energy,” Wolkfolk reasoned.

“I’m able to appreciate the sense of joy the first cover radiates. I also love the head-to-toe Dolce & Gabbana on the second cover. However, for an anniversary issue, these are seriously lacking,” vogue28 critiqued.

Make no mistake that Vogue Turkey is on our radar. The magazine has our undivided attention here at theFashionSpot, all thanks to Debora Zakuto’s choice in cover models of late. Constance Jablonski, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Grace Elizabeth, Beauïse Genç and Lila Moss have covered the Turkish fashion bible over recent months, with Zakuto adding Stella Maxwell to the list with the unveiling of the May 2024 issue. Via the lens of photographer Emre Unal, the Belgian-Irish beauty poses on a patch on grass in the season-appropriate cover shot. The image is complete with Vogue Turkey’s fashion director Ceylan Atınç dressing Maxwell in a multi-colored floral dress from Stella McCartney’s Spring 2024 collection (in addition to a gold necklace and bracelet from Cartier).

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“Not good,” stated caioherrero the moment the cover struck.

“No. She looks like any random young socialite. Feels like daddy paid for the cover to happen,” voiced an underwhelmed FAdS.

“It does feel very socialite,” tigerrouge chimed in. “And the background looks much more naturalistic than she does. The garish pattern helps distract the eye at first, but in areas with plain hair and skin, she’s got that unnatural “outline” that comes from post-processing.”

Mrs.T was in complete agreement, commenting: “Never got Stella Maxwell’s appeal as a model. I agree, here, she looks more like socialite than a model. The cover overall is not good or groundbreaking.”

Not everyone, however, shared the same sentiments. “I beg to differ, I like it. Florals for spring? Yes! She looks like a bed of flowers and it’s beautiful,” defended oaklee91.

“I’m with you,” replied vogue28. “Don’t mind the sight of this cover either, think it’s very easy on the eye, feels appropriate for a May issue.”

Vogue España May 2024 : Amelia Gray by Brett Lloyd

Amelia Gray is undoubtedly having a moment within the world of modeling. The industry continues to lap up the daughter of Harry Hamlin and Lisa Rinna like there’s no tomorrow. Amelia’s most recent additions to her ever-growing portfolio include fronting POP Magazine, becoming the face of Balenciaga and walking Chanel’s most recent Cruise 2025 runway spectacular in Marseilles. Inés Lorenzo welcomes the American beauty as Vogue Spain’s cover girl for May 2024, marking Gray’s second Vogue cover appearance as a fully-fledged model. The Carine Roitfeld favorite ventured to Paris for the Spanish fashion bible’s cover shoot, lensed by photographer Brett Lloyd. In the sun-lit cover image, the current face of Givenchy strolls the streets of the French capital clutching a canine companion and wearing a head-to-toe look from Miu Miu’s Spring 2024 collection, as chosen for the occasion by stylist Helena Tejedor.

“What a terrible cover…” immediately called out Lola701.

“Is this for real?” forum member Royal-Galliano questioned.

RMDV soon asked: “Where is the LIFE?”

“All sorts of awful, and I don’t even mind the sight of Amelia Gray. Awful makeup, atrocious hair, horrid choice of Miu Miu and my biggest pet peeve is when the cover subject isn’t engaging with the reader. Not a fan of this, whatsoeverrrrrrr,” voiced an underwhelmed vogue28.

Also not buying it was zoom: “Incredibly strange image select!”

“Meh… not even the dog is cute IMO,” shared kokobombon.

There can never be too much of Kate Moss, right? The editors at Vogue are bestowing upon us a Kate Moss overload with the unveiling of their May 2024 issues, and we’re 100% here for it. Plucked from the pages of British Vogue‘s May 2024 edition, the Brit fashion icon’s latest fashion story is doing the rounds on a global scale and ultimately makes for the cover of Vogue Taiwan. Moss, who stars in current advertising campaigns of Fendi, Balenciaga and Anine Bing, poses for Nikolai von Bismarck against a neutral textured backdrop. The cover image is complete with stylist Kate Phelan selecting a textured black jumpsuit from Chanel’s Spring 2024 collection for Kate to wear in the classic and timeless shot.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“Better than the Vogue Germany cover,” instantly approved oaklee91.

“That’s a fabulous cover! So great to see Kate finally modeling again. Applause!” praised Lola701.

Avonlea02 shared the same level of enthusiasm, commenting: “Beautiful cover, everything works!”

In complete agreement was vogue28, adding: “To be honest, I like this just as much as the Vogue Germany cover. I’m able to appreciate the simplicity, and how I am transported back to the times Alexandra Shulman would welcome Kate onto the cover of British Vogue by the likes of Patrick Demarchelier. This really is a beautiful shoot with Kate!”

“Not into this cover. They’ve retouched the face too much. ‘Forever Muse’, I agree. However, this feel flat to me, with the beauty of Kate and her endless cool – I wanted more,” shared jeremydante.

Balmain1914 described the outcome as “Over-Photoshopped” but do you agree?

Margaret Zhang is currently rounding out her tenure at Vogue China, having served as the magazine’s editor-in-chief since 2021. Subsequent to the announcement of Zhang’s unexpected departure, covers have gone to Fei Fei Sun, Rihanna and Tang Wei. Next up: Cate Blanchett. No stranger to the cover of Vogue, you might find it hard to believe that it has been four years since Blanchett’s last. Shot by Szilveszter Makó as Vogue China’s May 2024 cover subject, the Aussie actress becomes a red head for the occasion. In the creative and stylized cover photograph, complete with styling from Lisa Jarvis, Cate models a look designed by Nicolas Ghesquière for Louis Vuitton – a brand to which Blanchett became brand ambassador in 2022.

“Cate is beautiful and chic but this is NO!” DK92 immediately exclaimed upon checking out the cover.

“Terrible! She should have worn one of the long gowns or skirts from the collection with some blowing hair instead of this contrived thing!” Lola701 chimed in.

“I don’t like the cover at all,” shrieked forum member philophile.

Mepps wasn’t feeling it either, commenting: “Cate Blanchett is such a random choice for Vogue China. The cover is awful!”

Louis Vuitton continue to nurture its relationship with Léa Seydoux. After all, ever since Seydoux signed on the dotted line with the storied French fashion house in 2016 as brand ambassador, she’s been the face of umpteen Louis Vuitton advertising campaigns (from fragrances to handbags), graced the covers of an endless array of magazine covers wearing head-to-toe Vuitton and regularly dons Nicolas Ghesquière’s designs on the red carpet (most recently during the 2024 Cannes Film Festival).

Naturally, the French actress is adorned in Ghesquière’s Spring 2024 Louis Vuitton collection as she takes to the cover of M Le Magazine du Monde. The weekly supplement to the iconic French newspaper Le Monde has impressed us to no end lately, thanks to a series of terrific covers with Mona Tougaard, Amber Valletta and Paloma Elsesser.

M‘s latest is devoted to the Cannes Film Festival. Shot by British photographer Oliver Hadlee Pearch and styled by Katie Burnett, the French actress and star of Quentin Dupieux’s The Second Act which premiered earlier this week during the Cannes Film Festival, poses across a duo of black and white covers.

You’re about to see a whole lot more of Zendaya down at your local newsstand. Editors of Vogue from across the globe continue to trip up over themselves to endorse the global superstar.

Earlier this month, the 2024 Met Gala co-chair was welcomed by Anna Wintour onto American Vogue via the lens of famed photographer Annie Leibovitz – and to much fanfare from theFashionSpot’s forum members. In a shared transatlantic effort, Zendaya was swiftly unveiled as British Vogue‘s cover star for the exact same month. Now, Christine Centenera welcomes the fashion darling as cover girl, with the unveiling of Vogue Australia’s May 2024 installment. Three Vogue covers within one month is pretty impressive, right?

Four years after her last appearance on the Aussie fashion bible, the Challengers actress is photographed by Josh Olins. Naturally, of course, Law Roach was called upon for styling duties. The famed fashion stylist opted to dress Zendaya in a custom creation from Nicolas Ghesquière’s Spring 2024 collection for Louis Vuitton (to which Zendaya is brand ambassador). In addition, the recipient of one of theFashionSpot’s best-dressed at this year’s Met Gala event wears a selection of jewelry from Bulgari (another brand to which Zendaya is ambassador).

Recently, covers with Ida Heiner, Rianne van Rompaey and Léa Seydoux have defeated the competition with an effortless ease. The weekly Italian fashion title’s latest is no different. Farneti brings back Mila van Eeten as cover girl, who this time around, poses for photographer Carlijn Jacobs. For an issue dedicated entirely to jewelry, stylist Katie Burnett adorns the Dutch beauty in gold necklaces, bracelets and earrings with diamonds and emeralds from Bulgari High Jewelry, resulting in a striking and visually-arresting cover shot.

Vogue28 shared the same level of enthusiasm, writing: “That Mila van Eeten cover is absolutely GORGEOUS, so striking and visually-arresting. Absolutely love the black background, teamed with the stark beauty styling and jewelry. Very nicely done, as is the whole accompanying cover feature.”

Also very much a fan was Fiercification, commenting: “Wow. This is produced by the same woman who gave us absolutely nothing with that Zendaya British Vogue cover. I’m so taken by this. One of the best in recent times, even in a strangely strong season for edits. Pure fantasy – Katie Burnett always does the most with accessories!”

“The ‘Orpheus’ Dream’ fashion editorial by Jacobs is absolutely beautiful. Each photograph looks like a work of art,” enthused MModa.

Supermodels, top models or any working model will always and forever be a good idea, when it comes to who graces the covers of our fave fashion glossies. Thankfully for us, Vogue Germany’s Kerstin Weng has received the memo loud and clear over recent months. The title’s head of editorial content has welcomed Claudia Schiffer and Adut Akech onto the magazine’s front cover over recent months, with none other than Kate Moss making an appearance for May 2024. To commemorate the launch of Kate’s skincare brand Cosmoss in Germany, the iconic British beauty and undisputed icon of fashion poses for Nikolai von Bismark in the effortless and nonchalant cover photograph. Kate Phelan styled the cover shoot, complete with the current face of Balenciaga and Fendi wearing a look from Valentino’s Spring 2024 collection (below).

“Love everything about this cover! Beautiful,” described MModa straight away.

“There is something very serene about it,” BelkaniStaCouture admired.

Also very much a fan was vogue28: “Kate Moss has always been a one who doesn’t need any gimmicks on set, and this is prime example. I’m always down for a little laid-back luxe, so I’m here for this. The colors are gorgeous, so soft and demure. Every single element is working for me on that cover… right down to the pale green Vogue masthead.”

“Even slouching, it’s still chic,” voiced jeremydante.

Not everyone, however, was so convinced. “I have exactly the same expression looking at this cover,” critiqued forum member Royal-Galliano.

“She looks annoyed, but I really like the mood, the dress and the colors,” reasoned FiLReD.
