US Harper's Bazaar June/July 2024 : Emma Corrin by Sam Rock

You can imagine our excitement and complete bewilderment, subsequent to a slew of deeply unimpressive covers starring Solange Knowles, Lana Del Rey and Leanne de Haan over recent months, when covers of Harper’s Bazaar with Regina King, Anok Yai and Christy Turlington began to rock our world. It appears, however, things are back to square one with the unveiling of Bazaar‘s depressing and lifeless-looking double June/July 2024 cover. Samira Nasr welcomes Emma Corrin as cover star for the occasion, who captured by photographer Sam Rock, is dressed by the mag’s newly-installed style director Carlos Nazario in a Miu Miu vest top and briefs (Miu Miu being, of course, a brand to which Corrin is brand ambassador).

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“This? After Regina and Anok’s successful covers? No, thank you,” crmsn immediately disapproved.

“Honestly, I was rooting so hard for American Harper’s Bazaar. I see we’re back to square one here. Dumbfounded over Samira Nasr expecting people to part with their hard-earned money for such an abysmal cover. Where’s the allure? Where’s the charm?” asked vogue28.

MModa wasn’t buying it either, declaring: “This dud of a cover sums up the editor’s aesthetic.”

Also deeply unimpressed was NYLA22, voicing: “When I see covers like this, it makes me think that editors are making magazines for themselves. Harper’s Bazaar is a mass, mainstream fashion publication and I don’t really know who this is for!”

“Was really hoping that woke fashion mag covers were finally behind us. Guess not,” sighed Handbag Queen.

“Honestly with a different look, it could have been lovely. This dull beige Miu Miu set is not helping,” commented forum member GivenchyAddict.

Subsequent to becoming creative director of Alaïa in 2021, Pieter Mulier has endorsed a whole host of modeling’s finest with the Paris-based fashion house’s advertising campaigns. Campaigns from the get-go have included everyone from Mona Tougaard and Anna Ewers to Anok Yai and Kaia Gerber. Earlier this year, the Belgian designer secured none other than supermodel sensational Gisele Bündchen for the Winter/Spring 2024 campaign installment. Now, for the Summer/Fall 2024 season, Mulier taps model-of-the-moment Loli Bahia. The French beauty of Algerian descent poses before the lens of photographer Sam Rock. Styled by Aleksandra Woroniecka, the industry fave (who stars in the current campaigns of Versace, Saint Laurent and Chanel) poses within Rock’s photographic studio, showcasing pieces from Mulier’s Alaïa collection against a stark white backdrop, shot in crisp black and white.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“Beautiful. I always love Pieter Mulier’s Alaïa ads. So mature and glamorous, Matthieu Blazy should takes notes,” voiced Kanzai the moment the campaign struck.

“Mulier’s clothes are terrible but his campaigns are fabulous! Very Farida [Khelfa] mixed with Sade [Adu] coded! Fabulous!” Lola701 enthused.

WAVES simply described the campaign as “stunning!”

“So freaking beautiful! Love every single thing about this campaign, including the clothes. Sam Rock never disappoints and Pieter Mulier is one of my favorite designers at the moment. His clothes are exquisite,” raved forum member philophile.

Sharing the same level of enthusiasm was vogue28: “Absolutely love this. All for the simplicity and how stark, crisp and clean it is. Always loved Pieter Mulier’s Alaïa from his designs to his campaigns – and this is no exception.”

i-D Spring 2022 : The 'Out of Body' Issue

Under Alastair McKimm, i-D continues to be the gift that keeps on giving. The publication has a knack for dropping buzzworthy covers starring Kate Moss, Teyana Taylor, Naomi Campbell, Gigi Hadid, Billie Eilish and Kim Kardashian. There’s always something for everyone and the fashion title’s Spring 2022 edition is no different. This time around a total of seven covers come our way featuring Paloma Elsesser by Sam Rock, Cruz Beckham by Steven Klein, Rosalía by Oliver Hadlee Pearch, Hunter Schafer by Stef Mitchell, Binx Walton by Amy Troost, HoYeon Jung by Colin Dodgson and Kendall Jenner by Luis Alberto Rodriguez.

The covers immediately ignited debate on our forums. “I love Paloma Elsesser, but this is really not good,” confessed KINGofVERSAILLES.

“Geez isn’t Cruz Beckham like 17 years old? Not interested in seeing him on covers, least of all in his boxers…” disapproved Marc10.

“That Cruz cover is making me feel so uncomfortable,” echoed [Piece Of Me].

“Hideous retouching. This child’s abs look painted on,” avonlea002 pointed out.

Rosalía’s cover soon became the topic of conversation. “That’s a stunning cover!” declared mikel.

“The best of the bunch is Rosalía’s cover, purely because I’m reminded of Nick Knight’s early work for British Vogue with the photography. I love the colors, I like the styling and Rosalía’s pose. I’m also very surprised at Kendall Jenner’s cover…” voiced vogue28.

“I like Binx Walton’s because it’s a classic i-D cover,” added ivano.

“Happy to see HoYeon Jung. Love her cover! I also love Hunter Schafer, but her cover is probably my least favorite. They could have done so much more with her, what a waste,” said guimon.
