You can imagine our excitement and complete bewilderment, subsequent to a slew of deeply unimpressive covers starring Solange Knowles, Lana Del Rey and Leanne de Haan over recent months, when covers of Harper’s Bazaar with Regina King, Anok Yai and Christy Turlington began to rock our world. It appears, however, things are back to square one with the unveiling of Bazaar‘s depressing and lifeless-looking double June/July 2024 cover. Samira Nasr welcomes Emma Corrin as cover star for the occasion, who captured by photographer Sam Rock, is dressed by the mag’s newly-installed style director Carlos Nazario in a Miu Miu vest top and briefs (Miu Miu being, of course, a brand to which Corrin is brand ambassador).

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“This? After Regina and Anok’s successful covers? No, thank you,” crmsn immediately disapproved.

“Honestly, I was rooting so hard for American Harper’s Bazaar. I see we’re back to square one here. Dumbfounded over Samira Nasr expecting people to part with their hard-earned money for such an abysmal cover. Where’s the allure? Where’s the charm?” asked vogue28.

MModa wasn’t buying it either, declaring: “This dud of a cover sums up the editor’s aesthetic.”

Also deeply unimpressed was NYLA22, voicing: “When I see covers like this, it makes me think that editors are making magazines for themselves. Harper’s Bazaar is a mass, mainstream fashion publication and I don’t really know who this is for!”

“Was really hoping that woke fashion mag covers were finally behind us. Guess not,” sighed Handbag Queen.

“Honestly with a different look, it could have been lovely. This dull beige Miu Miu set is not helping,” commented forum member GivenchyAddict.

Last night (in addition to the 2024 PGA Awards), the 2024 Film Independent Spirit Awards took place down on Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, California. Celebrating the best of indie film and TV, the star-studded red carpet was more of a mellow affair as opposed to the high-glamour of the 2024 Golden Globes. Thanks to the relaxed dress code, fun jumpsuits, two-pieces and even some red-carpet socks were on full display. Emma Corrin’s look made for a serious style moment, arriving dressed in a pair of statement lime green socks, teamed with a little black dress from Miu Miu (a custom creation inspired by Miuccia Prada’s Spring 1998 collection). Natalie Portman wore a hand-crafted red leather ensemble from Balmain while Greta Lee (never failing to make a best-dressed list) donned a white sculptural dress from Lii.

Miuccia Prada stays loyal to Zoë Ghertner. The American photographer has lensed Miu Miu’s advertising campaign imagery since the Spring 2023 season (with the slight exception of the Matelassé handbag campaign starring Gigi Hadid). Ghertner is back for Spring 2024 and strips it all back for a series of simplistic yet bold portraits, captured under the natural light of the warm Los Angeles sunshine. A handful of Miuccia’s muses come together for the occasion, including Emma Corrin (obvi), Cailee Spaeny, Angel Haze, Lexie Liu, May Anderson and Demi Singleton. The star-studded cast were each styled by Lotta Volkova, and pose against a stark white backdrop, in an attempt to cement the fact less is always more.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“This was such a cute collection, with great bags and styling. I like the straightforward approach – however, these girls are giving nothing,” immediately called out lookatme.

“This type of photography only works with appealing faces,” MModa chimed in.

“The casting ruins everything. I only like Emma Corrin…” added GivenchyAddict.

WAVES wasn’t too overjoyed at the sight of the campaign either, commenting: “Miu Miu campaigns used to be so good!”

“Ad campaigns are done playing with glamour and sex appeal, which is eally sad,” Bernie Flood shared.

Not everyone, however, was so quick to disapprove. “Not mad at this to be completely honest! Quite like the simplicity of it all with the natural-lighting, the clean white backdrop which allows the styling and the personalities featured in the campaign to shine through and be the main focus. Zero gimmicks, just very straightforward and direct,” vogue28 reasoned.

Make no mistake that Emma Corrin is a firm fave is Miuccia Prada. Ever since the iconic Italian designer fixed her gaze upon the British actor, they’ve been fast-tracked as the face of Mrs. Prada’s namesake fashion label Miu Miu (on umpteen occasions) and even closed Miu Miu’s Fall 2023 runway showcase during Paris Fashion Week as per Miuccia’s request. To absolutely no one’s amazement, Corrin now makes an appearance in the brand’s Holiday 2023 advertising campaign. Throughout the series of images lensed by Zoë Ghertner and styled by Lotta Volkova, the actor perhaps best known for her tole as Princess Diana in Netflix’s The Crown totes the brand’s signature Aradie and Wander handbags, posing in a room lined with antique furniture and plush carpets.

A sense of intimacy, elegance and charm. Cultivated dress codes redrawn for the here and now. An expression of beauty reconsidered for the many facets of life today. Starring actor Emma Corrin, Miu Miu Holiday occupies a home, a private space, open to infinite possibilities and interpretation.

The mood is refined: an eased opulence and languor prevails in a filmic environment familiar to the person who inhabits it, who is cultured and confident – comfortable in their own skin. Backdropped by soft carpet and framed by precious antiques belonging to a distant place and time, the wardrobe is similarly layered – meaningful. Fluid black cady, shearling, tactile tweeds, sparkling organza embellished with crystal evoke archetypically sophisticated dress codes, their significance renewed.

Glossed leathers, soft cashmere and jersey afford freedom of movement and effortless allure. Prototypical garments are remixed. Incarnations of glamour and elegance past enrich and inform, always with the present and future in mind. Miu Miu collaborated with Marshall to create a joint line of their iconic products and with Polaroid for cameras complete with branded web camera straps.

US Vogue August 2022 : Emma Corrin by Jamie Hawkesworth

Anna Wintour must’ve heard our pleas for fresh new faces to start gracing the covers of American Vogue. After all, the publication has finally started featuring new and exciting cover subjects. Olivia Wilde, HoYeon Jung, Bella Hadid and Dua Lipa have all made their debuts this year. Now the honor goes to Emma Corrin for August 2022. Captured by Jamie Hawkesworth and styled by Alex Harrington, the Golden Globe Award-winning star is all smiles in the joyous cover image wearing a New York Yankees cap and a Louis Vuitton tank dress from the brand’s Fall 2022 collection.

Members of our forums either love or loathe the cover. “I have no idea who Emma Corrin is, but that’s a beautiful portrait by Jamie Hawkesworth. Love the golden colors,” admired mepps.

“Lovely, lovely, lovely! Love Emma and love Jamie!” praised ChicSaks.

“I love it! The monochromatic colors really elevate the mood of Emma’s photo,” crmsnsnwflks chimed in.

JPineapple also likes the outcome: “The cover is so refreshing to see! Emma looks so gorgeous…”

Everyone else isn’t sold. “Not really feeling any of this. The cover is dreadful — the cropping of the picture and positioning of Emma is terrible and what kind of off-balance layout is that?” wondered LastNight.

“I really don’t like the cover, Emma looks odd and I’m not a fan of the hair or the cap,” voiced aracic.

“This won’t make me buy Vogue again, what a boring cover,” declared liberty33r1b.

“Appears to be another month in which I’ll save some money from not buying American Vogue because this does zilch for me. Bland, lifeless (despite Emma Corrin’s smile) and devoid of any…pizzazz!” exclaimed vogue28.

2022 Met Gala

After skipping 2020 and scaling back a bit in 2021, we expected the 2022 Met Gala to really bring the drama. Not to mention the fashion. Thankfully, we aren’t disappointed.

Continuing the theme of “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” there was plenty of gilded glamour. There were corsets, structured skirts and opera gloves galore. But there were several stars who either downright ignored the theme or tried to put a modern spin on it. For example, Janelle Monáe’s Ralph Lauren look was a futuristic interpretation.

We spotted a surprising amount of cut-out accents. We were also taken aback by the sheer volume of see-through sections. (See what we did there?) Kim Kardashian certainly turned heads decked out in Marilyn Monroe’s iconic Jean Louis dress.

Both Blake Lively and Sydney Sweeney did an outfit reveal on the red carpet. The former rocked two Atelier Versace creations that paid tribute to the Statue of Liberty. The latter transformed her Tory Burch gown into a minidress.

Suits were also popular. Cara Delevingne, Irina Shayk and Chloë Grace Moretz all stepped out in striking style. It was actually a welcome contrast to all the dynamic dresses.

It’s definitely worth your time to scroll down to see all the crazy, sexy and totally cool looks from the 2022 Met Gala.

2021 Emmy AwardsFor the 2021 Emmy Awards, stars definitely wanted to stand out. From notice-me shades like highlighter hues to blinding sparkles, there was certainly a lot to take in. Not that we’re complaining. There were also plenty of striking accents. We’re talking opera gloves with finger openings to flaunt some serious stiletto nails courtesy of Emma Corrin and Miu Miu. Not to mention a matching bonnet. Kerry Washington rocked a corset-enhanced Etro dress. Plus, go big or go home sleeves a la Sarah Paulson and Billy Porter. The jewelry game was strong, too. Yara Shahidi’s Cartier necklace almost upstaged her gorgeous green Christian Dior haute couture dress. Then there were the stunning earrings. Take for example Michaela Coel’s perfect pearl danglers. It has been over a year since W Magazine gave us a buzzworthy cover. It’s starting to feel as though the magazine’s glory days are over. Despite the challenges of the pandemic and new ownership, Sara Moonves continues to fight for the publication’s survival. It’s still able to secure big-name celebrities for its covers, though. Now an issue dedicated to pop comes our way with four collectible covers. Beanie Feldstein appears on cover one photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, cover two features Emma Corrin by Tim Walker, Thuso Mbedu takes to cover three captured by Campbell Addy while the fourth goes to Julia Garner snapped by Renell Medrano.

The covers received mixed feedback on our forums. “Can’t go wrong with a classic Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin portrait…” commented aracic.

“Beanie Feldstein’s cover is the only true standout here because a flawless black and white portrait from Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin is always a good idea and an instant classic,” echoed vogue28.

Melancholybaby agreed: “I like Beanie’s cover, it has a certain charm and warmth to it and the layout resembles W‘s glory days.”

“Even Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin can’t save this abysmal magazine,” disagreed MON.

“I really like Beanie and this is a beautiful photo of her, but I’m not sure I like it as a cover,” noted KINGofVERSAILLES.

“Emma Corrin is perfect for this kind of shoot, the other covers are so boring,” Ivanity86 chimed in.

YohjiAddict is a fan of Emma’s cover, too. “I think Emma Corrin gave her all and she works as a Tim Walker character, a mischievous and tomboyish one.”

“Tim Walker without a budget is no longer Tim Walker,” said GivenchyAddict.

More often than not, anything photographed by Steven Meisel is declared an instant success on our forums. Now that Meisel is officially back on the books at Miu Miu, we’re all for it. Meisel returned to photograph the brand’s campaign last season following a five-year hiatus and is back once again for Fall 2021. Emma Corrin also returns (for a third time) as the face of Miuccia Prada’s namesake label going solo and holding her own in the sleek and minimalist campaign images complete with styling from Lotta Volkova.

“This was a good collection, the styling is actually well done and Emma does pull off most of the looks. But I can’t help but feel underwhelmed by the photography, seems pretty low-scale in comparison to last season,” noted GERGIN.

“She looks good, the clothes look good, but it lacks the magic touch,” agreed YohjiAddict.

“I see what they were going for…but it’s not there,” voiced dior_couture1245.

Marc10 felt underwhelmed, too. “The collection really doesn’t translate off that gorgeous mountain from the presentation and into a studio shoot with a plain background. Jazz it up please.”

The 2021 Golden Globe Awards managed to pull off a bicoastal, part-virtual ceremony. And the stars managed to bring glamour back in a big way. Whether they were walking the red carpet or dressing up from home or the occasional hotel room.

Cynthia Erivo lit up the red carpet in a neon Valentino haute couture creation. Margot Robbie’s ruffled cold-shoulder Chanel dress really made an impression. Gal Gadot’s high-low ivory dress was also a high note. Meanwhile, Salma Hayek turned heads in a striking Alexander McQueen gown.

Off the red carpet, both Regina King and Nicole Kidman stunned in Louis Vuitton. Elle Fanning looked like a Greek goddess in Gucci. Anya Taylor-Joy took the plunge in Christian Dior haute couture. Lily Collins’ one-shoulder Saint Laurent number was another standout. And Andra Day accepted her award in style thanks to Chanel.
