In a bid to evoke Louis Vuitton’s spirit of travel, Nicolas Ghesquière transported the fashion pack to Barcelona (the cosmopolitan capital of Spain’s Catalonia region) to present his Cruise 2025 collection. A handful of Vuitton brand ambassadors (including Ana de Armas, Sophie Turner and Lous and the Yakuza) were dotted along the front row, bearing witness to the French designer’s tenth cruise collection as creative director. Ghesquière opted to showcase his latest within Barcelona’s majestic Park Güell. Shown within the captivating Hypostyle Room (designed by Antoni Gaudi), the architectural masterpiece provided the perfect backdrop for Ghesquière’s futuristic spin on resort wear, with sleek tailoring and voluminous proportions setting the tone for the 80s-inspired lineup. Infused with bold Spanish influences, the collection was rounded off with accessories of sculptural earrings, brooches and wide-brimmed Andalusian hats.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“I think Nicolas is probably the only creative director of a major fashion house who is having such a strong POV and vast imagination which allows him to bled his aesthetics into different meta-narratives. Great show, great accessories. He saved the day (again)!” [Olaffo]

“I enjoyed it a lot! It was excess, very much close to the 80s. You can sense the Spanish references being mixed up with NG’s taste. For me, Ghesquière really managed to establish a precise silhouette for the LV women and just playing with fabrics, colors etc now and I love it: a real exercise of style.” [GivenchyAddict]

“I really enjoyed it. Not as precise and directional as the recent Shanghai show, but still miles ahead compared to what else is out there.” [j02215]

“Fantastic soundtrack! I love the dramatic allure of the opening looks, very Serge Lutens meets Carmen Sandiego. I loved the oversized blouson dress in ostrich, the little black sleeveless dress that came after with the dramatic collar, the simple black jumpsuit and the B&W look after. Very simple, fluid and timeless.” [Lola701]

“This was so disappointing, to be honest. I had high expectations when I saw the location being announced, and expected a lot more color and vibrancy given that it was being shown in an environment designed by Gaudi. Why was it so monotone? Also when will his obsession with the 80s be over? It’s getting so repetitive and boring at this point.” [Frederic01]

“The show was acceptable but too heavy sometimes. I wish we could see a lighter Ghesquière, less 80s inspired.” [Creative]

Nicolas Ghesquière staged his Pre-Fall 2024 collection for Louis Vuitton in Shanghai on April 18, ushering a whole plethora of A-list guests like Cate Blanchett, Regina King and Jennifer Connelly inside the Long Museum located in the West Bund district of China’s second largest city. The show marked the first under Louis Vuitton’s Voyager Show format (collections unveiled across the globe and paying homage to local setting and culture). Ghesquière’s latest was very much a celebration of youth and coming-of-age. The celebrated designer collaborated with artist Sun Yitian for the occasion, with the Beijing-born painter’s animated paintings splashed throughout the 57-look lineup – a mashup of sophisticated streetwear, geometric silhouettes and and voluminous gowns.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“This is so good. He always has my respect, nobody did a Pre-Fall collection with this level of dedication.” [Kanzai]

“Love the remix of past collection but done more wearable, which makes it fresh.” [PDFSD]

“Yes to everything. This is so good. And to be this very dedicated with lazor vision is wonderful to see. NG hasn’t lost his cool one bits. I love the references he drew. Quite expansive ideas but they all come together nicely. So many cute pieces for brand ambassadors to wear. Commercial but well styled. The silk printed pieces makes me actually feel like huge print is okay.” [TaylorBinque]

“This is how you reference the destination without being so literal and putting their flag or landscapes in the clothes. Just by knowing how they dress and by knowing their vibe. I’m not sure if it was deliberate or not, the loud colors, the mismatching clothing but still looking put together.” [tourbillions]

“Oh! That’s good. A lot of pieces, a lot of things to grab and mix. And it’s surprisingly cohesive despite the fact that the collections referenced are quite different. I think the real success of this collection is that it’s still very commercial.” [Lola701]

“It’s a great collection. And he picks the right location for the show. What I think was really fabulous about this show is despite being a commercial collection Nicolas still makes it fashionable and fun. He just proved that a pre-collection show doesn’t have to be a parade of merchandise, you can make it fun and exciting.” [THD96]

“I think its a fabulous collection. NG has formed a clear concise Louis Vuitton vision. The finale pieces are just glorious.” [Nimsay]

Designers themselves on the covers of our fave fashion glossies is far from out of the ordinary. Throughout time, we’ve encountered everyone from the late Karl Lagerfeld to Tom Ford down at the newsstand.

Nicolas Ghesquière is no stranger to gracing the odd magazine cover or two either. Throughout his tenure as Louis Vuitton creative director, Ghesquière has fronted the covers of Vogue Korea, Vogue Brazil and Vogue Japan (to name a few). W Magazine China is the French designer’s latest conquest, fresh from presenting his 10-year anniversary collection at the helm of the storied French fashion house during Paris Fashion Week. Shot by Alasdair McLellan and styled by Marie-Amelie Sauvé for Chinese W‘s Volume #7 2024, Ghesquière poses alongside his muse Rianne van Rompaey in cover one (below), with the pair each going solo (decked out in Vuitton, obvi) on their respective covers (after the jump).

“Nicolas Ghesquière looks great!” added forum member moonmoon.

Aracic shared the same sentiments, echoing: “They both look quite good! Rianne’s second cover as a designer’s muse. And another stellar result at that as well! Her solo cover is simply beautiful, she’s such a gem in an era of highly unremarkable models!”

“Rianne is really special and truly gorgeous. I’m happy she’s still a muse of Nicolas,” shared NicholasII.

“Absolutely love this! Alasdair McLellan has photographed Nicolas Ghesquière and Rianne van Rompaey here perfectly, they both look fantastic. All three covers are superb!” heralded vogue28.

Around 4000 guests descended upon the Cour Carrée du Louvre situated right in the heart of Paris tonight, to bare witness to Nicolas Ghesquière celebrating 10 years as creative director of Louis Vuitton. Ghesquière’s showcase closed out the Paris Fashion Week calendar in spectacular style, with a set boasting a giant futuristic iridescent spiked ball and equally as enormous speakers. Front row attendees like Cate Blanchett, Gemma Chan and Léa Seydoux were soon watching models move throughout the historic courtyard setting donning feather-adorned dresses, oversized mittens, broad-shoulder blouses and voluminous embroidered skirts. To say the Vuitton show sent PFW out with a bang would be an understatement.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“What a cool set.” [signifier]

“Silhouette for days. So much more accessible than normal but still has a good amount of dreamy looks. I am sure somewhere out there, there are already customers fighting over the embellished coats. Some looks reminded me a lot of his Balenciaga which I have missed. I think Louis Vuitton now has replaced Chanel for the dreamy shows. The set, the opulence, the fashion!” [tourbillions]

“The set is everything.” [matheus_s]

“This is fabulous! I can always count on Nicolas to do the job and deliver. Maybe not the best collection of the season but these clothes have fashion energy and I can always appreciate that because it’s lacking so much in with other fashion houses.” [ghostwriter10549]

“I love seeing his texture exploration and these 10 years have been lovely in terms of fashion exercise! He’s a master and his mind is fascinating.” [thiago]

“It was such a great show! Full of references! The furry gloves he did at Balenciaga, the references to his own Vuitton collections! 10 years ago on the morning, we were excited for that new challenge for him and now 10 years later, at night we were celebrating his achievement. Fashion with a capital F! He is still the best ever for me! Stunning show, outstanding.” [Lola701]

“He is the best living fashion designer in the world. Nobody does it like him, they don’t even try it. Nicolas is far above his peers, and even a ‘low key’ collection like this one proves it. I pity young designers for not wanting to be like him. They don’t understand what makes his work so special, preferring to chase ‘fashun’ moments that disappear at the very moment of their virality. More years of Nicolas, please!” [Alquimista]

Forum Members React to Nicolas Ghesquière Renewing Contract as Louis Vuitton Creative Director
IMAGE | IMAXTREE

Fans of Nicolas Ghesquière can rejoice, after the news of the French-Belgian designer having renewed his contract with Louis Vuitton – following 10 years of relationship and creative bliss. Ghesquière joined Vuitton and replaced Marc Jacobs as creative director back in 2013. His vision for the fashion house founded in 1854 has only went from strength to strength, collection after collection and campaign after campaign. From headline-grabbing destination shows in places like Rio de Janeiro to producing top-selling accessories such as the Twist handbag and in addition to helping generate revenues of a record $20 billion in annual sales last year – you simply cannot blame the powers that be at LVMH for locking down Ghesquière once again.

Naturally, it was only right for members of theFashionSpot forums to chime in upon the news dropping. “He deserves it. He and JW Anderson are the only designers at LVMH who I wouldn’t sacrifice to appease the fashion gods.” [LadyJunon]

“When I look at Chanel, Gucci, Dior, I’m glad Nicolas at Vuitton exists! Ghesquière is still one of my all time favorite and I can’t wait to see what he has to offer.” [Lola701]

“Ghesquière has never been my most favorite of designers but with fashion’s never-ending game of musical chairs, it’s so very refreshing to see an announcement of a partnership staying together. And if it ain’t broke… don’t fix it.” [vogue28]

“It’s been an interesting tenure creatively. Not always the most successful and I do think he is challenging himself which is great. But it’s littered with really ugly, challenging proportions for clothing. I still love him though because when he’s on, he’s ON. I’m looking forward to seeing what he gives us the next five years.” [reese06]

“For once it’s nice to see someone challenging at an institution. He stands like a shining star among the blandness plaguing mega brands. I might not always like what he does at LV but it’s quite a feat to have someone as adventurous as him at such a mass taste brand and make it work. It’s genius. He delivers commercial hits without compromising his craft.” [Kimihiro]
